Let’s Explore the Jejak Warisan Heritage Trail 🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♂️

KKB Heritage Trail

What❓⁉️

Do you know KKB with its nickname as “Kiri Kanan Bukit” (also KKB) in Malaysia 🇲🇾’s national language which means “Left Right Hill ⛰” ~ In a way, a sleepy town surrounding with hills ⛰⛰

1️⃣ of the hill ~ Bukit Batu Pahat ⛰ is now famous for extreme sport ~ paragliding, aka KKB Paragliging Park currently. Not to miss the beautiful 😍🤩 scenery & view from this hill top ya ğŸž

Why❓⁉️

KKB was designed by Malaya’s 1️⃣st town planner Charles Reade based on the influential ‘garden city movement’ of urban planning which 1️⃣st initiated by Sir Ebenezer Howard back in 1898

Hence, now working towards to have it being listed on the National Heritage Act 2005 & then the UNESCO world heritage site by the Selangor State Government, do read more via 🌐  https://www.mdhs.gov.my/en/mdhs/media-centre/news/kuala-kubu-bharu-town-listed-unesco-world-heritage-site & 🌐 https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/selangor-eyes-2-unesco-heritage-listings

Malaysia 🇲🇾 currently has 4️⃣ UNESCO sites, hope KKB can be added ➕ soon too

Definitely worth a read 📖 to learn more about KKB & its history via 🌐  https://www.nst.com.my/lifestyle/jom/2020/08/613506/jom-go-beyond-kkb-town-limit & 🌐  https://wikitravel.org/en/Kuala_Kubu_Bharu & 🌐 https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Kuala_Kubu_Bharu

Where❓⁉️

Currently, there are 6️⃣ heritage spots 📍📍 from this Jejak Warisan Heritage Trail & more will be added ➕ soon to this trail eg. an old cinema (1953), St. Paul church, wall murals ğŸŽ¨ğŸ–Œ lane etc.

1️⃣. Hulu Selangor District/ Land Office Building 🏢

KKB remains as the main administrative town of Hulu Selangor district. Yes ✅, 1️⃣ of its heritage still operating as the current Hulu Selangor District Land Office 🏢

This administrative complex 🏢 rehoused the District House & the Magistrate Court. The British took a lesson from the floods tragedy by building administrative complex 🏢 on top of hill ⛰ for safety purposes. The construction of the complex 🏢 was completed in 3 Nov 1930 with a cost of $172, 675.70

2️⃣. King George VI Commemorate Clock 🕰 Tower

This clock 🕰 tower is a major landmark of KKB town. It’s located at the top of Bukit Kerajaan ⛰ & opposite the Hulu Selangor District/ Land Office 🏢

It was built in 1937 to commemorate King George VI & Queen Elizabeth crowned King & Queen of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

3️⃣. Hulu Selangor Traffic🚦Police HQ 🚨👮🏻‍♂️👮🏻‍♀️

It’s located at the top of Bukit Kerajaan ⛰ & was 1️⃣st built in the 1914 as a church ⛪ named The Church of Ascension to serve the Angelic devotees. It has the physical aspects of a typical Victorian building eg. the cupola at the top of roof

It had been adaptive reused when C.C Reade (1880 – 1933) proposal of the new 🆕 township that involving this hilly site ⛰ as an administration centre in year 1926 🏢

Hmm…SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has actually missed 🤦🏻‍♀️ this spot from her trail exploring. A special thanks to her travelmate, IG @livelifelah 🙋🏻‍♀️ she has got the pictures 📸📸 of Spot 3️⃣ to share here

4️⃣. KKB Post Office 🏤

It was built around the 1930s along with the development of KKB. It was designed with the Neo-Classical Architecture style, mainly characterised by round gable windows & round tribe casement windows

5️⃣. No.1 & 2 Jalan Dato Tabal Shophouses

Shophouse No.1️⃣ (PWD 211) & No. 2️⃣ (PWD 212) are shophouses in the historic building category. These shophouses were dispossessed by security forces during Malayan Emergency. However, there are 2️⃣ versions of the story,

Version 1️⃣ ~ This building is used by Communists to attack the Police 🚨👮🏻‍♀️👮🏻‍♂️Station @ Bukit Kerajaan

Version 2️⃣ ~ This building has been used by the Communists forces for their meetings

In the past, this Dato Tabal street was called as Bowen street. Bowen actually meant for a long serving District Officer of Hulu Selangor in the past as mentioned in a letter written by the District Officer of Hulu Selangor to its residents about the naming of streets in KKB. All being recorded in the book 📖 named “Tarikh Kuala Kubu 1780 – 1931” published by the Kuala Kubu History Society. Credited & do read more via 🌐  https://museumvolunteersjmm.com/2019/10/20/visit-to-kuala-kubu-bharu-kkb/

This street now being modernised with wall murals ğŸŽ¨ğŸ–Œ, especially the entrance of a hair salon 💇🏻‍♂️💇🏻‍♀️

6️⃣. Old Fire Station 🚒 KKB

It was built in 1931 at a cost of $9,937.71. It was designed with the Neo-Classical Architecture style, this fire station 🚒 has 3️⃣ fire engines bay, resting room, a kitchen & a store

It’s registered as PWD No. 112 under the historic building category

This 70++ years old fire station 🚒 may look stable on the outside, however no ❌ longer safe to serve its original purpose after the repair maintenance from the massive flood in 1926

Instead, it’s now the KKB Tourism Info Center ℹ️

When❓⁉️

Hmm…All these 6️⃣ spots 📍📍are available ✅ for photos/ videos ğŸ“¸ğŸ“¹ğŸŽ¥ opportunities anytime

Would like to recommend you all to have a guided tour to enjoy this heritage trail with a detailed heritage & history explanation of each spots 😁 by the experienced tour guides

Who❓⁉️

It’s maintained & managed well 👍🏻 by Majlis Daerah Hulu Selangor (MDHS) aka Hulu Selangor District Council

How❓⁉️

You can get to KKB via KTM train ğŸšž & got down @ KKB komuter station, do check out more details via 🌐 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuala_Kubu_Bharu_railway_station

Then, connecting with Smart Selangor free 🆓 bus services 🚌 , more details via 🌐  https://www.mdhs.gov.my/ms/pelawat/pengangkutan

Do book a guided tour at the KKB’s Tourist Info Centre ℹ️ (At the Spot 6️⃣ of this trail) to enjoy this whole trail 👍🏻

Not just the heritage trail, worth to explore below too

Al-Hidayah Old Mosque 🕌 , Ampang Pecah

1️⃣ of the oldest mosque 🕌 in Malaysia 🇲🇾

Guess what❓⁉️

When the Sungai Selangor dam was malfunctional for the 1️⃣st time in 1883, then caused a massive huge flood to KKB. The it was broken in 1926 for 2️⃣nd time, it wiped out the whole KKB town except ❌ for this mosque 🕌 & the Guan Yin Gu Si Temple ⛩ Wow‼️😲

This place was named as “broken dam” aka Ampang Pecah in the Malaysia 🇲🇾 ‘s national language due to the massive flood which broke the dams in the history

It was once said by the residents 👫👭👬 that it’s constructed by magic supretitious power in 1924 & inspired by Javanese architecture with its arabesque decorations

Wall  Mural ğŸŽ¨ğŸ–ŒÂ  Streets

The beautiful wall murals ğŸŽ¨ğŸ–Œ here actually potray the history & memories of KKB, its economic activities in the past ie. tin mining ⛏ , rubber tapping as well as the white crocodile ⚪️🐊 (As a river guardian) fairy tale

These beautiful 😍🤩 wall murals ğŸŽ¨ğŸ–Œ also share the famous activities within KKB nature 💚🌳🌳💚 attractions eg. waterfall hiking 🥾 , white water rafting, hot spring ♨️ etc.

A perfect place to capture some stylish beautiful OOTDs ya

Ohh ya…This lane actually very near to the 100 years Hainanese kopitiam named Sun Sun Nam Cheong

She 👩🏻 is proud to continue being a supportive 💪🏻🙌🏻 media member 👩🏻‍💻📝 to highlight & share the awareness of the Selangor Culture Council & the State Government’s great efforts to initiating & promoting some of the traditions & cultures of Selangor villages as a tourism product 💗🇲🇾👍🏻

A sustainable local tourism to continue discover more heritage rich villages. Of course the next & new 🆕 generations still gain chances to learn & appreciate the art, cultures, heritages inherited from the old generations then

Comfy Homestay/ Hotel Stay 🏨

Personally she 👩🏻would like to recommend & suggest you all to opt for a village homestay during your visit to Kampung Parit 2 Sungai Haji Dorani 🏡🏘🏡

Do check out FB page via 🌐 https://www.facebook.com/Doranihomestay/, it was founded during Javanese migration from Indonesia to Malaysia & a unique Javanese village which owns a different lifestyle & culture from the other Malay villages 🏡🏘🏡

Or to engage this homestay to gain experiences of various village activities 😃

Due to fully booked of this homestay, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has checked-in 🔑 to a family suite with 2️⃣ of her travelmates, Kyoko & Pikah 👭 for a pleasant comfy 4️⃣D3️⃣N stay in the 1️⃣st boutique hotel 🏢 in Sekinchan, a small town in Sabak Bernam

It aims to providing affordable hotel rooms with A+ services to all its guests 👫👭👬

Guess what❓⁉️

She 👩🏻 actually stayed in this hotel 🏢 back in 2018 (Her partcipation ✅ to Rentak Selangor 2018). Really impressed that this hotel is maintaining well 👍🏻 till to-date, bravo‼️👏🏻🙌🏻

Purposely snapped photos 📸📸 at same spot 😆 Coinsidently she 👩🏻 wore black 🖤 & the same “I’m busy” pink 💗 cap in both photos 📸📸 Just a short hair vs a long hair 😝😜 Lol…😂🤣

Address📍: A+ Boutique Hotel, No. 6 Jalan Sekinchan Perdana 2 Taman Sekinchan Perdana, Kampong Sekinchang, Selangor Darul Ehsan, West Malaysia
FB🌐: https://www.facebook.com/aplusboutiquehotel/

Curious why Javanese 🇮🇩 foods❓⁉️

During this village visit, she 👩🏻 has a privilege to taste some of the traditional 🇮🇩 Javanese foods & delicacies, read more via 🌐 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javanese_cuisine

Selangor state of Malaysia 🇲🇾 is with lots of Javenese migrants 🇮🇩👫👭👬 since early 1900s, hence lots of Javanese cultures are being influenced to the local Malaysians 🇲🇾👭👬👫

Approximately 4K villagers 👭👬👫 in Kampung Parit 2 & consists of Javanese (@ paddy field), Banjarese (@ coastal area) & Malays (In between paddy field & coastal area). The other villages are Kampung Sg Nipah, Kampung Sg Limau & Kampung Parit 4

Traditional Food Cooking Demo ~ Sambal Taun/ Tahun 🌶

This sambal is originated as 🇮🇩 Javanese’s spicy 🥵🌶 sauce with the amount of chillies 🌶🌶 used & generally cooked with anchovies, clams, cow skin or cow inner parts etc.

It aims to keep for consumption of almost a year (ie. Tahun means year in Malaysia 🇲🇾s national language)

Keep in cooking wok & heat up daily for consumption as chilies 🌶🌶 are natural food perservative. Not to mix with coconut milk when 1st cooking it for keep purposes

She has enjoyed this dish with cow skin (Its texture like a jelly), a delicious tasty 🤤😋dinner 🍽 she had

Traditional Food Cooking Demo ~ Sambal Cili Hijau

Another 🇮🇩 Javanese’s spicy 🥵🌶 sauce & this is cooked with green chillies 💚 & anchovies

It’s really really spicy 🌶🌶 , however she 👩🏻 loves & enjoyed it very much. She loves anchovies 😋🤤 This sambal can be cooked with chicken, beef etc. according to preference ya

Traditional Food Cooking Demo ~ Pecel Lele

It’s 🇮🇩 Javanese style deep fried catfish 🐟 dish with its spicy 🌶 coconut 🌴milk 🥥🥛 sauce, read more via 🌐 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pecel_lele

Loves 💗 the tasty catfish 🐟 served in this cooking style 👍🏻😋🤤 during 1️⃣ of her dinners @ homestay 🏡🏘🏡

Traditional Kuih Making Demo

There are 3️⃣ types of 🇮🇩 Javanese cakes (aka kuih in Malaysia 🇲🇾 ‘s national language) which made with its main ingredient ~ Cassava, read more via 🌐 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassava

These cakes no longer available at stalls/ shops within Selangor state, she 👩🏻 really felt privilege 😃 to still have a chance to taste them during her visit 🏡🏘🏡

Let’s enjoy her TikTok clip ğŸ“¹ğŸŽ¥ above which being captured from all 3️⃣ cakes making demo shown. Hmm…Why not a cafe themed with all these Javanese cakes in this village❓⁉️

Ubi Kayu Getok ~ Cassava aka Ubi Kayu in Malaysia 🇲🇾 ‘s national language

The making of this cake require some strong energy 💪🏻💪🏻 as need to hit the cassava until it flats & compact to making a tasty cake to enjoy 😉

This cake extremely tasty 😋🤤 to enjoy with the sambal cili hijau 💚🌶

Punten ~ This rice cake extremely tasty 😋🤤 to pair & enjoy with the sambal cili hijau 💚🌶

Ketiwol ~ Extremely tasty & easy to make this cake with 3️⃣ main ingredients, Cassava, coconut 🌴🥥 & sugar

Read more about each cake mentioned above & the recipes via her travelmate, Lily 🙋🏻‍♀️’s sharing earlier via 🌐 http://lilyrianitravelholic.blogspot.com/2015/07/lemper-punten-getok-and-ketiwol.html

Flat Bread Making 🍥 (aka Roti Canai in Malaysia 🇲🇾 ‘s national language)

Just realised that the making of roti canai 🍥 aka flat bread actually not ❌ so simple & easy, especially the making process of hand throwing the dough ☺️

Always order & at times complaining about the long wait for roti canai to be served at mamak stall, after learning how to making it from this trip, she will not ❌ complain anymore for sure 😀

Where to Eat

Laman Tebu ğŸŽ‹ Aidil Orkid

A small stall operated by a family within home 🏡 compound & with sugar caneğŸŽ‹plants by the roadside. A calm pleasant dining space

Must try the original sweetness sugar cane drink 🥤& with some ice cubes in it

💯% confirmed no ❌ added sugar of its refreshing natural sweetness sugar cane drink 🥤to enjoy a glass after a glass. A healthy drink not to be missed ya

Note: Tebu aka sugar cane in Malaysia 🇲🇾 's national language

Also must try 👍🏻😋🤤 packed nasi lemak, BBQ honey 🍯 chicken wings & BBQ honey chicken back 🐓🍗

Guess what❓⁉️

8️⃣ kilos each of chicken wings & chicken back being sold daily according to the owner 👍🏻Wow‼️😲 That’s a lot, good business 😁

Personally she 👩🏻 really enjoyed the nasi lemak served here with its sweet spicy 🌶 sambal 😋🤤

Its core business remains with orchid & bonzai plants. Then, venturing to this food business from the owner’s kids ideas from a whole family discussion 🏡🗣👥👤👥 as the sales of plants were badly affected during the Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO)

The owner’s son has won some bonzai recognitions ğŸ†ğŸŽ–ğŸ…nationwide & international 👍🏻Bravo 👏🏻🙌🏻

Traditional Village Activities

Baling Kelapa Games

A modern bowling ğŸŽ³ game, the bowling ball is replaced with a coconut 🥥 in village & using the recycled plastic bottles as the bowling pins

Trumpet With Coconut Leaves 🌴

Amazingly to making the trumpet by just rolling the coconut leaves 🌴😃👍🏻 So so creative

Hmm…Just that this trumpet can’t be used for long term, it’s not ❌ functional after the leaves dried up ya 😌

Scarecrow Making

Really exciting 😉 fun to learn & make a scarecrow with her group members 👬👭👫 allocated

Why a scarecrow❓⁉️

It’s widely use by the farmers 👨🏻‍🌾👩🏻‍🌾 to scare away the birds 🐦🦅  from destroying paddy 🌾🌾

Fishing  Cat Fish ğŸŽ£ğŸŸ @ Paddy Field

A quiet leisure activity at the village either by the river, stream, paddy field etc. Catfish 🐟 is Ikan Keli in Malaysia 🇲🇾s national language

According to the village kids, they will keep the catfish as pet 1️⃣st, till they grow bigger, then to cook & enjoy them as dish 🍽

Traditional Art & Culture

Barongan Kuda Kepang 🐴

Kuda Kepang aka Flat Horse 🐴 is a traditional Javanese dance with a group of horsemen (as dancers) straddle a flat horse 🐴 Each Flat Horse was made with the braided strips of woven bamboo, then being painted & decorated colourfully

This dance portrays troops riding horses & incorporates trances. When dancers are in trance, they display extraordinary abilities as being possessed by animal spirits eg. monkey 🐒 , snake 🐍 , elephant 🐘 , bird 🦅 etc. Some of the horsemen will swallow glasses, climb trees 🌳🌳 , walk on hot ♨️ burning charcoals etc.

It’s the practice of the “rewang” values inherent from the Indonesia 🇮🇩 Javanese influences ie. not ❌ being selfish in the community 👫👭👬, mutual respect, solidarity & sharing of experiences etc. 👭👫👬

Some of the common examples eg. Gotong royong, working together to prepare food feast etc. ☺️

Silat Performances

It’s not only a martial art, to-date it also performs in Malay villages during official ceremonies & wedding 🤵🏽👰🏽
