Nature Ecotourism & Heritage Things To Do at Kuching Sarawak

As shared in SiennyLovesDrawing ‘s much earlier blog story 👩🏻👩🏻‍💻✍🏻 in 2023, she was invited as media member to witness the great 👍🏻 success of recent PATA Destination Experience Forum & Mart 2023 at Kuching, Sarawak 🇲🇾

She decided to share this #throwback travel story here NOW because of a very recent sad news 🗞️ that the well known natural unique rock formation “Cobra 🐍 Head” sea stack of Bako National Park collapsed just past few days, she as a nature lover felt so sad about it

It’s completely gone now, so so sad…👩🏻😢😭

Read more about this sad news via 🌐 https://sarawakforestry.com/collapse-of-the-most-iconic-rock-formation-of-bako-np-the-cobra-head-sea-stack/ , 🌐 https://dayakdaily.com/tourism-minister-sarawak-govt-will-not-be-able-to-reconstruct-bako-national-parks-serpents-head-rock-formation-due-to-position/ & 📹🌐 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/VphukYebhRxPTuLg/

When she flown in to Kuching, Sarawak with AirAsia ❤️✈️, she really enjoyed the unique beautiful Sarawak River view 💺🪟 from her window seat, it’s impressive 😍🤩 Do check out her TikTok clip captured via 📹🌐 https://www.tiktok.com/@siennylovesdraw/video/7258452395892460802

The Sarawak River flowing through Kuching city centre. At Kuching Waterfront (The south bank of the Sarawak River), visitors can opt for a traditional Kuching Penambang boat ride 🚣🏽‍♂️  with the local for one way fare of just RM1️⃣ to cross the river, then to visit the traditional Malay Boyan Village & savour authentic Malay cuisine, seafood, shopping 🛒 🛍️ for colourful layered cake aka kuih lapis in Malaysia national language & salted fish named Sarawak Terubok etc. If you’re a fan for sunset 🌅, do opt to enjoy the Sarawak River sunset cruise 🚢 for a breathtaking 360’ panoramic view of the Kuching skyline 😍🤩

You may also enjoy slow walking 🚶🏻‍♀️ across the beautiful Darul Hana Bridge (Since Nov 2017) 🌉 to reach the other side of the river too. Ohh ya…Just cross the road from Kuching Waterfront to reach the famous Main Bazaar area where you can enjoy shopping 🛒🛍️ for souvenirs, including the Sarawak colourful layered cake ya 🍰😋💯

IMG_20230722_161136

Ohh ya… Suggest you all to pay a must visit & collect latest info/ brochures from the Tourism Malaysia information center when you’ve touched down & reached the Kuching international airport ✈️

She has participated the destination experience tour to 1️⃣ of the best Borneo nature attractions ie. Bau’s Wind & Fairy Cave Nature Reserve for some fruit bats 🦇 & bird-spotting 🦅, as well as to explore the old gold mining town of Bau with its spectacular karst mountain backdrop & abandoned mining lakes, then enjoy a local tribal lunch 🍽️ & wander through the century-old Siniawan Old Town

Read more about her media attendance to PATA conference experience via 🌐 https://siennylovesdrawing.wordpress.com/2023/06/22/pata-destination-experience-forum-mart-2023-with-theme-sustainability-in-action/

Not just that, as a nature lover & ecotourism 💚💯 enthusiast, she also went to explore Bako National Park with her travel friends met from this Kuching visit, yeah 😃💯👍🏻

Do continue enjoy reading her eco & heritage exploring experiences at Kuching, Sarawak 🇲🇾💚💯👍🏻

Bako National Park

Guess what❓⁉️

It’s the oldest & smallest national park in Sarawak, gazetted in 1957. It covers an area of 27.27 square kilometres at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula & well known for its diverse ecosystems, coastline, jungle trekking & endangered proboscis monkeys. It’s home to rare, bizarre, obscene-nosed proboscis monkeys, found only in Borneo

You can go on your own to Bako Nationals Park 🏞️, not necessary need a nature guide / private tour arrangements. A special thanks 🙏🏻 to the great efforts 💯👍🏻 by the Sarawak Forestry Department to ensure the clear signage 🪧 , colour coding trail marking, good proper walking trails etc.

SiennyLovesDrawing & her travel friends has completed all 3️⃣ trails ie. Telok Paku, Telok Pandan Besar & Telok Pandan Kecil, yes ✅, the popular trails for a day trip

She had a good sweat & enjoyed explore the flora & fauna, the beautiful scenery along her trails journey ☺️, in particular the view overlooking the Mountain Santubong ⛰️🏞️🤩😍  & uniquely rock formations from natural erosion results over millions of years 🐍🪨 well known as “Cobra Head” sea stack

Do check out her TikTok clip captured from her trail hiking journey, boat ride 🛥️ to visit & view the recently collapsed sea stack, as well as being welcome by the Proboscis monkeys 📹🌐 via https://www.tiktok.com/@siennylovesdraw/video/7251440131670805762

You can opt for an overnight stay at the Bako National Park accommodation (Do book in advance) for a different experience ie. Go for night walk to explore the park during the night time. Suggest to hire a nature guide so with their experience & know well about the park to spot the variety of wildlife that active during night time

This absolutely gonna be a 💯 precious memorable visit that SiennyLovesDrawing still managed to view the sea stack of Bako personally before its recent collapse, sigh…

As you all can view from SiennyLovesDrawing’s IG album & blog cover photo of this story, the sea stack was already with a thin bottom from the wind & waves erosion over time during her visit in 2023, it’s not surprised it’s now gone from the recent big rough waves attack 🌊🐍🪨

Address 📍: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zDL2YGZgFWE6mZhQA
Visiting hours🕗: 8am – 5pm daily
Website 🌐: https://bakonationalpark.my/ & https://sarawakforestry.com/parks-and-reserves/bako-national-park/

Wind Cave Nature Reserve & Fairy Cave Nature Reserve

Both are located near the town of Bau. Gold mining was the main activity in Bau in the 1840s with the Chinese being the main player in this industry. The mining of gold is still being carried out today

Let’s follow “Leave No Trace Principles” (🌐 https://lnt.org/why/7-principles/) for own safety & to protect our nature cave environment

Siennylovesdrawing 👩🏻 would like to remind all that it’s all responsibility to keep nature wild for the wildlife & to ensure it’s there for future generations. Don’t touch the cave walls or wildlife that lives there. This can damage the sensitive cave environment. Take your trash with you & don’t litter 🚯, pack it in & pack it out too ya 😁

Stay on the guided paths, do not wander off the trails & into other parts of the cave without any nature guide with you for safety reasons 💯👍🏻

✨ To know Sarawak is to love Sarawak ✨

Entrance Fee Similar For Both Caves:-

Non-Malaysians

  • Adult (18 to 59 years old) ~ RM5️⃣
  • Child (6 to 17 years old) ~ RM2️⃣
  • Child (Under 6 years old) ~ 🆓

Malaysians

  • Adult (18 to 59 years old) ~ RM1️⃣
  • Child ~ 🆓
  • Senior citizens (Above age of 60), disabled (OKU) will get 🆓 entrance

Visiting hours:  9am to 4pm daily from Tue to Sun & Public Holidays, closes Mon for maintenance purposes

Wind Cave aka Lubang Angin

It’s believed its name derived from the cooling breeze blowing continuously through the cave. It’s a smooth, tubular limestone cave formed during the Jurrassic-Cretaceous period ie. Roughly 60 million years ago

It’s gazetted as a nature reserve park 🏞️ by the Sarawak government to protect the numerous bio diversities here. There are around 14 different bat 🦇 species, 12 species of snails 🐌 , black nest swiftlets & various rare orchids & palms 🌴at the nature reserve

It’s made up of 3️⃣ unlit tubular passages

Before entering, all visitors must watch the required safety video at the visitor center 1️⃣st. The Sarawak Forestry Department really does a great 💯👍🏻 job with information & descriptions of how the cave was formed through informational graphics at the visitor center, bravo & keep it up 👏🏻🙌🏻

A 1️⃣K meter plank walk runs throughout the length of the cave, easy & safe to explore it, although the interior of the cave is unlit & a torchlight 🔦 is essential. A small stream meanders through the cave & joins the Sarawak River at the northern end. The main cave passages are wide & flat, while the smaller passages form an irregular network in the northern section of the cave

The Wind Cave’s main features include stalagmites, stalactites & pillars which form when these 2️⃣ join together. Other features include conical cavities separated by blade-like pinnacles of limestone, limestone pendants hanging from the roof of the cave passage & current scallops which have a honeycomb appearance & indicate the direction of the water flow

There is ❌ lighting at all at Wind Cave (To avoid disturbing the bats 🦇 ) so after walking for a min, visitors will completely reliant on torch light 🔦 which is indispensable for this cave. It’s recommended to show your torch light 🔦on your feet 👣 area & not on the wall to avoid scared the bats 🦇

SiennyLovesDrawing appreciates this opportunity as it’s a rare & unique to experience such complete enveloping darkness with only the high-pitched squeals of bats for company here, unique experience gained 🖤💯👍🏻

Yellow 💛 reflective stickers line the route & there are railings on both sides of the path so visitors cannot fall off or get lost. Notice boards 🪧 at periodic intervals provide information on the species living in the cave, including Dusky Fruit Bats 🦇

For safety reasons, all visitors must wear proper outdoor attire, shoes 👟 & prepare torchlight 🔦 in order to enter the caves. You may rent at ticket counter for cover show & headlamp with a small fee ya

Tips on What to Bring/Wear

  • Wear sturdy close-toed footwear with good grips 👟 as some of the paths are slippery, especially outside the cave
  • Wear a hat/ cap 👒🎩🧢 unless you think bat droppings are good for hair
  • Wear an effective insect repellent, or wear long sleeves & long trousers 👖 with long socks
  • Gloves 🧤 are not a bad idea as the hand rails in the cave are guano encrusted
  • Bring some drinking water. It’s really hot & humid to spend 30mins inside the cave
  • Don’t forget the headlamp/ torch 🔦 The headlamp sort is preferable. Make sure you’ve change with 🆕 batteries 🔋 ya

Fairy Cave aka Gua Pari/ Gua Kapor

It’s gazetted as a nature reserve park by the Sarawak government to protect the numerous bio diversities here. There are around 14 different bat species, 12 species of snails, black nest swiftlets & various rare orchids & palms at the nature reserve

It’s about 30mins drive from Kuching city center & 8km away from Wind Cave

Upon arrival, there is a visitor center with washroom 🚽

Before entering, you must watch the required safety video at the visitor center 1️⃣st. The Sarawak Forestry Department really does a great 💯👍🏻 job with information & descriptions of how the cave was formed through informational graphics at the visitor center, bravo & keep it up 👏🏻🙌🏻

Fairy Cave has a light filled cavernous main chamber. The limestone stalactites takes so much time to build up ie. approximately 🔟cm every thousand years, wow 😲

The cave formations were so interesting & SiennyLovesDrawing couldn’t help but stop & stare at them every few steps 👩🏻🤩😍 Absolutely stunning natural formation here, impressive beautiful ❤️

This mystical cave sits approximately 30m above the ground & it’s believed to be the home for Chinese gods & goddess. The unique cavern & rock formations at Fairy Cave is unlike any other limestone caves,it simply amazes & impressed all with how beautiful our mother nature is 😍🤩

To get to the caves, visitors will have to climb up the 5️⃣ storey high stairs. As you make your way up, you will notice various sign boards educating visitors on the flora & fauna available at this nature reserve. At the very top of it, then reach the viewpoint of the surrounding area with a beautiful backdrop of the nearby terrains

There are 3️⃣ trails ie. Twilight Trail (30mins on average & covering a distance of 343m), Dark Trail (It proceed onwards for another 15 to 20mins along the 250m unlit pathway) & Gunung Kapor Summit Trail (Most challenging & it requires a guide & permit approval in advance)

SiennyLovesDrawing has completed 👩🏻🚶🏻‍♀️💯✅ both the Twilight Trail & Dark Trail for a short day trip here with other PATA delegates

Fairy Cave is well equipped for rock climbing. There are 8️⃣ walls with various difficulty for visitors to try out & all being certified by the International Mountaineering & Climbing Federation (IMCF)

There were some common legends & stories on how Fairy Cave got its name

Tips on What to Bring/Wear

  • It’s closed during heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning occurrences & strong winds. So, do weather check 1️⃣st before visiting it
  • If you plan to drive to Fairy Cave, do ensure that car tyre & brakes are working well
  • No vandalism, littering, smoking & destructive behaviour will be tolerated
  • Wear reliable close-toed footwear when visiting the caves, as some parts of the trail are slippery when wet. You won’t be allowed to enter the cave if you’re using sandals. Siniawan Old Town

Siniawan is a small town in the Bau district, about 20km away from Kuching. The Siniawan Heritage Fiesta celebrates the cultural heritage of the small town with unique Hakka legacy in Sarawak. In fact, Siniawan also a sister town to Hukou 湖口, an old town in Taiwan’s 🇹🇼 Hakka heartland Hsinchu

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻🍽️😋 was here during the day time for a lunch dining at Ayak Gallery Cafe. Then, slow walking🚶🏻‍♀️to enjoy the heritage street with 2️⃣ rows of old shops (24 shops on each side). Very calm & quiet during the day time

IMG_20230722_230104

During the weekends ie. 5pm – 10.30pm Friday to Sunday, Siniawan’s street comes alive with stalls selling food & snacks. Yes ✅, when the Siniawan Night Market is set up along the streets of the town, it offers a wide variety of local delicacies & street snacks. The main attraction of this night market is the abundance of Chinese lanterns 🏮🏮that change the way the street looks, turning it into a movie-like setting 🤩😍

Pinehill Garden 🍇, Marang, Terengganu

It’s privately owned fruit garden with home grown passion fruit & grapes, already operated for 6️⃣ years now, the grapes 🍇 harvested only enough supply to make grape juice at its cafe. The very 1️⃣st harvesting was all sourish grapes, then subsequent years with sweet grapes harvesting

Guess what❓⁉️

Yes ✅, Malaysia can grow grapes 🇲🇾🍇💯👍🏻

Planting grapes 🍇 in hot country like Malaysia 🇲🇾 is possible, however with rigid & required proper care especially during the beginning stage of its root planting ie. The root cannot be shaked, cannot be dropped out or disturbed by a cat or dog etc. To plant with a mixture of sand, “Koko Pit & “Peroi” soil & its secret fertiliser. Most importantly, cannot let the growing grapes 🍇 having too much water especially no rain 🌧️☔ water. The fruits beared with be covered up to avoid being attack by any insects

Grape 🍇 harvest season of 5️⃣kg twice a year her. This year due to its improvise fertiliser used, it has harvested for an additional 1️⃣ time, wow 😲 Good news 👍🏻

They’re selling baby grape tree of RM120 ie. “keratan batang” & also its secret fertiliser for public to buy & plant it on their own

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has tried the fresh grapes 🍇 harvested here, it’s sweet when 1️⃣st chewing in mouth, however it ends with a slight sourish bitter taste from its “kelat” fruit skin

She also bought a bottle of its fresh grape natural extract juice 🍇 & enjoyed its natural grape sweetness

In conclusion, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 really enjoyed her campervan 🚐 trip for the 1️⃣st time, especially the convenience of having toilet 🚽, hot shower ♨️🚿 & good sleep 😴🛌🏻in air conditioning throughout this trip. No need to worry about sleeping in air-conditioning in RV 🚐 as it’s using room air conditioning just like home 🏡 or office, not the normal vehicle air conditioner. So, it’s 💯% safe

It was an amazing ✨ ~ Jelajah Campervan Pantai Timur 2023 ~ ✨

Sharing some of her tips from recent campervan travel experience 👩🏻🚐,

  • Wherever possible, use the public shower 🚿 & toilet 🚽 facilities, save the washroom in the campervan 🚐 for emergency usage to avoid unpleasant hygiene & urine smells as well as limited water tank
  • If travel long journey, must 1️⃣st pump diesel ⛽ to full tank before departure
  • If cooking, suggest to cook outside of the campervan 🚐 to avoid oily & smelly campervan
  • For overnight, ensure survey 1️⃣st & call up the campsite 🏕️ to confirm the availability with campervan parking 🚐🅿️ & plug 🔌 point for charging before your campervan travel
  • When parking 🅿️ on the beach 🏖️, need to be careful as heavy vehicle 🚐 may sink in the soft sand area
  • When charging your RV 🚐, do ensure it’s properly charged & not overload the usage of a same charging plug 🔌 point to avoid a total blackout of your RV from its flat battery ya
  • Remember to lock 🔒 your RV whenever you’re away & no one in it
  • Always remember that most RVs with higher height, so must use the heavy vehicle or lorry lane to crossing certain areas, especially the toll plazas that generally with height barrier during your road journey 🛣️

Updated 6 Sept 2023, 8.30am

Hey 👋🏻 all, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 is gonna sharing with you all here about her recent #cuticutimalaysia trip in a recreational van (RV) ~ Campervan 🚐 to visit & explore East Coast of Malaysia ie. Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang states 🇲🇾

During the flag off 🏁 at📍MaTiC Kuala Lumpur, Mr Azmi Abdullah 👨🏽‍💼, the Director of Tourism Malaysia Central Region has elaborated that, “Tourism Malaysia has been being proactive in promoting this relaxed cum healing travel experience of vacationing using a campervan 🚐 through this Jelajah Campervan Pantai Timur 2023 program.”

“There were 11 participants ranging from officers from Tourism Malaysia East Region office, travel agents & media members (SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 was 1️⃣ of the invited media ☺️) in 5️⃣ RVs with KL Carz & Sarjana Travel And Tour to enjoy this 🆕 & unique experience of exploring interesting tourist destinations in 3️⃣ states ie. Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang on the East Coast of Malaysia 🇲🇾 by overnights in a campervan 🚐”

Mr Azmi 👨🏽‍💼 has shared that this campervan holiday style started gaining ground since Malaysia went through the recovery phase from the global health pandemic ~ COVID-19. However, it has long been popular in foreign countries eg. Australia 🇦🇺, New Zealand 🇳🇿 & Europe 🌍, now is 1️⃣ of the family vacation options in Malaysia 🇲🇾 Especially for those who prefer a relatively more private, freestyle travel, comfortable, for family togetherness & reduce contact with the public

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 really enjoyed her media #cuticutimalaysia #vanlifemalaysia in a recreational van (RV) ~ Campervan🚐 to explore East Coast ie. Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang with @tourismmalaysiawt 🇲🇾The convenience of having toilet🚽, hot shower♨️🚿& good sleep😴🛌🏻in air conditioning just like home🏡, not vehicle air-conditioning, safe💯👍🏻 Mr Azmi Abdullah👨🏽‍💼, the Director @tourismmalaysiacentral has elaborated during the flag off📍@maticmy KL that, “Tourism Malaysia is being proactive to promote this relaxing cum healing travel experience of vacationing using a campervan 🚐 through this #EastCoast Campervan Tour 2023. He has shared that, “This holiday may not be the same as a normal holiday experience because it’s a more relaxed concept with minimum space requirements within the campervan 🚐 & yet able to provide sufficient comfortability. It depends very much on the relative inner van space, facilities & the hotspot of a certain destinations within Malaysia 🇲🇾 “

Had a chat with Mr Ayoi & Pakcik Joy of this tour organiser from KL Carz & Sarjana Travel And Tour, the campervan 🚐 that SiennyLovesDrawing has stayed in for 4️⃣D3️⃣N during this program is with RV rent of RM1.5K/ day for comfort travel of 4pax max. If required for a driver, would need to top up the driver wage of RM150/ day within the KL area & RM250/day for outstation. The campervan 🚐 is worth of RM388K, wow 😲

Mr Ayoi also shared that North region of Malaysia currently with many proper public facilities ie. Appropriate spacious parking 🅿️ space, plug 🔌 points etc. which cater specifically for campervan travel 🚐 And the East Coast just starting to develop more facilities to cater for campervan travel

Guess what❓⁉️

It’s SiennyLovesDrawing’s 1️⃣st time to experience travel in a campervan 👩🏻🎒🚐, so excited happy 😁 & to witness the Camper Rally Terengganu 2023 @ Kenyir Geopark event at Pulau Poh. It was organised by the Tourism Terengganu & Persatuan Campervan & Motorhome Malaysia (PCMM) (FB page: https://www.facebook.com/persatuancampermalaysia/), a non profit organisation since 2019 in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. PCMM has earned its 1️⃣st Malaysia Book of Records Malaysia with Camper Rally at Putrajaya Wetland, 2 to 4 Sept 2022 with 122 vehicles attended, check out more via 📸🌐 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cielw5UBhOH/

So proud that it’s now gained its 2️⃣nd record with 231 vehicles attended (250 vehicles registered) for Camper Rally Terengganu 2023, bravo 👏🏻😁

The President of PCMM is Mr. Farman Othman & this Camper Rally Terengganu 2023 Project Director is Mr. Abdul Aziz Ahmad

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 is proud to note that this Camper Rally Terengganu 2023 has also gained some international participants ie. 6️⃣ RVs from Germany 🇩🇪, 1️⃣ RV from UK 🇬🇧 & 12 RVs from Thailand 🇹🇭, bravo 👏🏻

Read more via 🌐 https://www.terengganu.gov.my/index.php/ms/arkib/berita-semasa/2059-camper-rally-gathering-pecah-malaysia-book-of-records

However, from her chat with some of the Camper Rally Terengganu 2023 participants, there were some of the Thailand RVs unable to cross border to attend it last mins due to respective RV documentation issues, so sad to note it 😔

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 & her travel mates were arrived late at Pulau Poh, Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu on 2 Sept 2023 & noted many participants have left earlier as the event program has ended earlier from the original program set due to the heavy rain 🌧️ ☔, thunderstorm ⛈️ & flash flood from the bad weather during the program 😔

Yes , Malaysia 🇲🇾 is now on the map 🗺️ for campervan holidays alongside with countries like New Zealand 🇳🇿 , Australia 🇦🇺 & Europe 🌍

Guess what ❓⁉️

Malaysian Government actually sees the potential campervan industry in East Coast region, read more via 🌐 https://www.nst.com.my/news-cars-bikes-trucks/2022/11/856118/government-aims-transform-east-coast-region-billion-ringgit-rv & in fact, the 1️⃣st campervan gathering by PCMM was in 2021 at Langkawi (46 vehicles), then gatherings at Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (56 vehicles) & Kedah (22 vehicles). Also Campervan Rally Terengganu, Putrajaya in 2022 & many more

It’s roughly estimated that there are approximately 2K units in Malaysia 🇲🇾 of various types, sizes & shapes of either fully imported, self-built/ DIY or modified RV vehicles. There are still many who have not registered to become PCMM members. Maybe some of them are just more comfortable being RV travel solo or in small groups only. Also there are many of them who still don’t know about the existence of PCMM as an association that brings together the RV owners. So, PCMM always tries to promote & publicise the existence of this association either through social media or the implementation of activities in various locations

Another proof of the growing trend of RV in Malaysia 🇲🇾 is Knaus, a Germany 🇩🇪 RV brand is now exploring to manufacturing caravans in Malaysia with a price range from RM150K to RM200K a unit & fully furnished with Germany technology. SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 & the Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia East Region Office, Mr Mohd Azizul Arif 👨🏽‍💼has visited 2️⃣ units of Knaus Caravan exhibited at the event, it’s so nicely designed to meet all the basic needs of a moveable home. She has met with Mr Bernhard Schutte 👨🏼‍💼, the Chairman of Tapio Management Advisory Sdn Bhd, he shared that he has been in Malaysia 🇲🇾 for 15 years, seeing the potential of Malaysia in this RV trend, still in continuous progress meetingsvwith the Malaysian ministries to prepare the next phase of the RV & caravaning industry’s establishment in Malaysia 🇲🇾 He even jokes that good thing of owning a RV is if you don’t like your neighbourhood, you can just move away, which is not doable if you’re staying in a landed home 🏡 A special thanks 🙏🏻 to Mr Bernhard who has offered 1️⃣ month 🆓 rental caravan at any location as SiennyLovesDrawing wishes within Malaysia to review & sharing her own living experiences in it. She informed that she will take consideration & requested Mr Bernard to remember his offer to her as she may use this offer in the near future 😁 Oppsss… Forgot to capture a group photo 📸 together at the end of the good chat about RV industry potential in Malaysia

Similarly, a general driving licence 🪪 is required in Malaysia 🇲🇾 before you’re allowed to drive a motor vehicle 🚗 of any description, including campervan 🚐 on a road 🛣️ under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. SiennyLovesDrawing always thought it’s required for heavy vehicle driving license in order to drive a RV as most RVs are huge in size. Most Malaysians enjoy the fun of travel in campervan for the simplicity of van life with basic living needs fulfilled ie. Drive, travel, eat 😋, sleep 💤 , shower 🚿 & toilet 🚽 etc. within the campervan 🚐 space, including enjoy the outdoors & camping for 🆓 on public lands. It’s travel with a liveable space aka mobilized home in a van 🚐 that can be driven & travel from 1️⃣ location to another, especially suitable for those enjoy road trips

Screenshot_2023-09-01-14-26-19-560-edit_com.camerasideas.instashot

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 really enjoyed her campervan 🚐 trip for the 1️⃣st time, especially the convenience of having toilet 🚽, hot shower ♨️🚿 & good sleep 😴🛌🏻in air conditioning throughout this trip.

  • If travel long journey, must 1️⃣st pump diesel to full tank before departure

The next morning @ Pulau Poh, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 got a privilege to chit chat with some of the friendly experienced campervan rally participants. They shared many interesting stories from their van life as below 😃

Mr Suhaimi Khamis 👨🏾‍🦳, the Chairman of PCMM for Johor state, he was an ex-navy military officer. Started his van life after brought a motorhome 🚐 from Japan 🇯🇵 worth RM90K with his wife, Madam Sabariah after retirement. He advised that do start to live in the moment since working life was too hectic & less time with family for him, now he enjoys life & not worry about the day of death. Just do it! 💪🏻 Together we make it great 👍🏻

The most inspirational sharing was from his wife, Madam Sabariah 🧕🏽, she was an ex wellness trainer & inspirational speaker now to share her journey as a Lupus patient in her current recovery journey. Since 1 March 2023, she got Lupus disease that attack her heart, kidney, lung & liver. She told that doctor done into patient twice on her. She remains strong 💪🏻 with high medication fighting & recovery journey now after 2 months in bed 🛏️ & kept pushing herself out from bed. She did it 😁, so proud of her, she was on wheelchair 🦼 in June, on walking stick in July 2023 & since Sept without walking stick. During her recovery journey, her hubby, Mr Suhaimi still brought her around with motorhome to travel, carry her on & off wheelchair, a true love couple 👩🏽‍❤️‍👨🏾 She enjoys her inspirational speaking now by sharing her own life journey with other Lupus patients that “I can do it, so do you, don’t give up!!” SiennyLovesDrawing got so touching with her story sharing, appreciate her trust & received her consent that I can share her story here with you all 🙏🏻💕💯

Then, Mr Shafie Khamis 👨🏾‍🦳, the brother of Mr Suhaimi, an ex-fireman 🚒 & started during pandemic time to enjoy volunteer missions with his own DIY campervan including toilet, cabinet, sofa bed from a vacation van. After retirement, he enjoys  around with his wife, then continuously & progressively DIY his campervan even now. Both shared the same travel motto, “Anyone of any age can travel, no limitations.”

Mr Nizam Awami from UK 🧔🏽🇬🇧 was an ex-Malaysian who worked in British Aerospace industry, then seconded to British Royale Air force as test pilot. He has travelling in his motorhome 🚐 for 1.5 years since joining in the Global Motorhome Community in Europe 🌍 He shared that cost of living especially in a landed house 🏠 in Scotland & some areas in UK is superb high now, so many actually now opted to living on rent at campsite 🏕️ that it’s cheaper comparatively. He shared his observation that the firebreak & fire extinguisher safety regulations for Europe campervan is very strict & rigid. While the worst is in Spain 🇪🇸, they are too easy going, not strict & not safety centric at all. In July 2022, Spain campsite fire happened with 50 campervans gone in 90 seconds due to the result of too linea regulations. He also observed that Malaysia 🇲🇾 which is 🆕 & just started van life since 2017 is also not strict. He started travelling around in his motorcycle 🏍️ in 1996 to cross the border from KL to London, at that time infrastructure & evolution progress was still not proper & smooth especially when he crossed border to India 🇮🇳 & Pakistan 🇵🇰 The most challenging part for him was when at Iran 🇮🇷, only allow 20 litres diesel refill per station This restrictions is set to the foreign vehicle entry from cross border. Even Malaysia also restricted the same for Singapore vehicles

Mr Choong (Penang) & his wife, Madam Joyce Chin (JB) enjoys travelling in his own DIY camper car 🚗 with roof top tent, movable toilet & kitchen, fridge now, used to travel on 4×4 wheels & off-road travel. He shared that he enjoys travel by follow his heart & no fixed plans, also to enjoy local foods during his road journey

SiennyLovesDrawing really appreciate 🙏🏻💕💯 these memorable morning chats. Wishing all of them continue to enjoy respective van life safe & happily whenever & wherever ya 🛣️🚙🚐

After learning the experiences from the campervan rally participants, she is now tempting to polish up her driving skill, so she can perhaps own a campervan 1️⃣ day & start to enjoy her van life to then 👩🏻🚐

This Jelajah Campervan Pantai Timur 2023 program was with 1️⃣st stop at Muse Ecopark of Kelantan, then some other tourist destinations in Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang

Hmm…Curious 🤔 about travel in campervan, things to do, foods to enjoy & even where to stay with proper & safe campervan parking 🅿️ (Yes ✅, no need check-in hotel, just sleep comfortably in the vehicle 🚐😴💤💯👍🏻)❓⁉️

Do stay tuned for SiennyLovesDrawing’s next blog post 👩🏻✍🏻👩🏻‍💻 & it will be a good reference for your trip planning to travel to East Coast in a campervan/ motorhome/ caravan/ recreational van (RV) 🚐 ya 😁
