Citing statistics from STB’s Research Division, YB Datuk Christina Liew ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ผ has shared that domestic travellers contributed two-thirds of the total tourism arrivals in Sabah prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. “For the pre-pandemic scenario, the total tourism arrivals in Sabah was 4.19 million visitors in 2019. That year, domestic tourism contributed 2.72 million arrivals while the figure for international arrivals stood at 1.47 million visitors. Last year, 80% of the 1.72 million arrivals to Sabah constituted domestic visitors. With the recent resumption of international direct flights, cruise tourism & optimism about mounting regular or chartered flights from ๐ destinations, Datuk Christina Liew informed that Sabah targets 2.2 million arrivals for 2023 & will work towards attaining 2.5 million arrivals. “If we succeed in hitting the 2.5 million mark, this would indicate an increase โฌ๏ธ by 45.35% compared with 1.72 million arrivals in 2022.”

Almost 60 female riders, accompanied by their friends, participated in the event to celebrate the day

This is now formed part of the NAGโs โSingleโ series of exhibitions & it features scenes from old alleyway houses or longtang residences which were built in Shanghai, China ๐จ๐ณ from the 1840s to 1940s

This offers the art gallery visitors a glimpse into the relationships that are important to Ms Red Hong Yi๐ฉ๐ปโ๐จ
Also an invitation to revisit the fast-disappearing tradition of longtang houses as the old makes way for the ๐ in Shanghai, China ๐จ๐ณ
Alleyway houses combine both Chinese & Western architectural styles & are built side-by-side along narrow interconnected passageways. Ms Red ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐จ looks back fondly on her time living there, describing life in a longtang compound as noisy, messy & intimate. She further explained that you would see locals gathered in these cramped alleys, chattering & gossiping about their children or grandchildren. Vendors would sell vegetables or second-hand items on mats. In the afternoons, residents roll up their sleeves & cook, hand-wash laundry or play mahjong with their neighbours
With longtangs quickly disappearing in the face of modernity, this art installation attempts to address impermanence, tradition & urbanisation. I wanted people to see ๐ & feel the relationships I had, & maybe even experience the people & places that I love โค๏ธ in a way that I love them. says Ms Red ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐จ , who left her career as an architect to be a full-time artist in 2014
