Which brought ShopeeFood to survey our cities for the best 5️⃣-star cuisines as rated by ShopeeFood users. During its last 3️⃣ major campaigns, such as the 9.9 Shopping Day, 10.10 Brand Sale & 11.11 Big Sale, ShopeeFood gathered data on food trends to find out what Malaysians loved to eat. Measured based on the most frequently ordered items on the ShopeeFood app 🧡📲, the survey showed 2️⃣ clear favourites: rice-based dishes & fried chicken

There is no denying that rice 🍚 is the heartland of this country. Aside from the multitudes of paddy fields across the nation, rice is our staple food, incorporated in our baby food, snacks, desserts & almost every meal. Whether it’s Chinese-style bowls of steaming rice 🍚, or the ever-famous Indian banana leaf meal & not forgetting our beloved Malaysian Nasi Lemak, rice is in the DNA of Malaysia & its people 🇲🇾

While Roti Canai may have hit the top spot on ShopeeFood’s top 5️⃣ cuisines survey, rice-based dishes & some form of fried chicken 🍗 are abundantly featured in our food trends. Chicken dishes especially fried chicken 🍗 not surprisingly also came out top in the best 5️⃣ stars cuisine found on the ShopeeFood app 🧡📲 Fried chicken is a treat savoured by young & old alike 😋👍🏻 For some, fried chicken was a treat enjoyed during large weekly family gatherings or just as a workday lunch or dinner.

According to a survey in 2021, Malaysians are the 3️⃣rd highest chicken consumers in the world 🌏 with almost 50kg of chicken consumed per year, per person *1. While it does not close in on the 82.3 kilograms of rice a Malaysian eats per year *2, for a population of just over 32 million people to be the 3rd highest chicken consumer in the world goes to show how much Malaysians love their chicken

All attendees got to experience the green meeting facilities in Arena meeting room of Sunway Resort Hotel

As a go green supporter, SiennyLovesDrawing enjoyed her 1️⃣st green meeting & observed some great sustainability efforts ♻️💚✅👍🏻

✅ Glass water containers & cups replacing single use plastic
✅ Papers supply at a destinated corner in the meeting room, upon usage required, instead of distribute on each seat
✅ Snacks & sweets in reusable container eg. No more Mentos sweets to reduce single use plastic packaging etc.
✅ Food on Food concept: Repurpose the fruits skin as fruits containers
✅ Sunway Group owns a water treatment plant to source own clean drinkable treatment water for Sunway City’s water usage
✅ Usage of food waste composting machine

All attendees got to understand, then tour & gain experience a hotel’s sustainable food waste management practices. Also learning more insights into a Silver Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Recognition (MFAR) hotel’s sustainability efforts in managing food waste, as well as halal foods preparation for Muslims guests

Then, to visit the segregated halal kitchen & the food waste composting machine. It’s really impressive that with proper food waste management, the compost can be used as fertilizer in plantations ♻️💚💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻

SiennyLovesDrawing has learnt that 150kg food waste required for at least 18 to 24 hours compost process in this 300 litres machine. It depends on food waste put inside the machine, no specific measurements, if fruits skin a lot, the compost will be watery & hence it will take longer time to compost. Food scrap includes food being touched but not finished & food waste from food preparation

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 would like to share here that Shopee reveals what drives Malaysian consumer loyalty to their favourite brands online in its Oct 2022 study ‘Winning Malaysian Loyalty on E-Commerce’ *. For official brands with storefronts on Shopee Mall, repeat purchases are driven by value-added services & guarantees. 87% of Malaysians surveyed prefer Shopee Mall official brands due to 💯% guaranteed authentic products, hassle-🆓 returns, & 🆓 shipping. The remaining 13% feel rewarded by exclusive product launches & Shopee Brand Memberships 

Survey Methodology* ~ The 2022 “Winning Malaysian Loyalty on E-Commerce” survey was conducted by Shopee Marketplace, between 19 July to 17 Aug 2022. The biggest marketplace study to date obtained voluntary feedback from over 5K Malaysian buyers & sellers
