Terengganu International Squid Jigging Festival 🇲🇾

Yeah‼️ SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 is gonna sharing 👩🏻‍💻📝 about her recent 1️⃣st experience of squid 🦑🦑 jigging aka candat sotong in Malaysia’s 🇲🇾 national language

Where❓⁉️

It’s at Terengganu state of Malaysia 🇲🇾 ~ Beautiful Terengganu ~ 😍🤩

It was an exclusive media invitation 📩📧💌 from Tourism Malaysia 🇲🇾 to join its recreation club annual family trip 🤗😊

IMG_3068.jpg

Hmm…What’s squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣❓⁉️

This was exactly the 1️⃣st question ❓she had in her mind 💭 when she 1️⃣st read the invitation 📩📧💌 received 🤔

Ohh…SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 with her so called “fisher-woman” look 😉 (she loves her orange Malaysia batiksarong) for this festival 🎉🎊 participation, pretty 😍 right❓⁉️

IMG_3529.jpg

Hmm…She was told it’s a technique of catching squid 🎣🦑🦑 by using a colorful artificial bait. Ohh ya…The colorful artificial baits actually glow in the dark, that’s how the squid 🦑🦑 will then easily got attracted to. When the bait is being dropped down & sank to the bottom of the sea 🌊 bed, a rope will then raise up. Then, advisable to keep both pull up ⬆️ & pull down ⬇️ the rope as this helps to attract the attention of the squid 🦑 🦑

She yet to touch the bait herself during her recent jigging 🎣 participation, so googled 👩🏻‍💻🌐 to share how colourful the baits are 😀

Ohh…Why❓⁉️ Do read 📖 on to find out ya 😉

Guess what❓⁉️

This candat sotong 🎣🦑🦑 is also the daily activity of many local people 👫👭👬 or fishermen 🚤🚣🏻‍♀️🚣🏻‍♂️ in Terengganu to earn a living 💰 However, it has been being commercialised by the Tourism Terengganu since 1991 as 1️⃣ of the Terengganu’s tourism attractions📍

Curious 🤔 when to enjoy this squid jigging🎣🦑🦑❓⁉️

This jigging 🎣 activity is seasonal & usually around the last week of March till July each year i.e. when the monsoon season ends / monsoon winds 🌬💨🌊 towards the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia 🇲🇾 The appropriate time 🕔 to be out at sea for it would be advisable between 5️⃣pm to 6️⃣am. At night 🌃🌌, lightings 💡💡from the boats 🚤🚣🏻‍♀️🚣🏻‍♂️ are extremely important to catch the attention of the squid 🦑🦑 & to attract them to swim 🦑🦑 towards the boat 🚤🚣🏻‍♂️🚣🏻‍♀️

So, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has witnessed the official launch 🎉🎊 of this 2018 Terengganu International Squid 🦑🦑 Jigging 🎣 Festival

Interestingly, the launch 🎉🎊 was quite special by using some fake squid 🦑🦑 for the special guest, Menteri Besar Terengganu👨🏾‍💼~ Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Ahmad Razif bin Abdul Rahman to demonstrate to all the participants on how to candat sotong (or the right way) 🎣🦑🦑 that evening 🏙

After the launch 🎉🎊, she was then being arranged to be in a boat 🚤 with 8️⃣ members 👭👬👬👬 (i.e. the max legal no. of pax in the fishing boat 🚤 as listed on its fishing license 📋). Most of the boats 🚤🚤 were with late departure due to the unfavourable weather 🌦☁️🌫 & boats 🚤🚤 traffic jam that evening 🏙 from Batin Village Jetty ⚓️

For this 2018 fetsival 🎉🎊, there were approximately of total 220 participants 👫👭👬 including media members & all being allocated into 22 boats 🚤🚤 Wow‼️ A big crowd‼️😲 That’s why the jetty ⚓️ was experiencing boats 🚤🚤 traffic jam to anchor & pick up all the participants 👬👭👫

IMG_3562.jpg

Yeah‼️ Flag off 🇲🇾

Then, the boats 🚤 were sailing towards the candat sotong 🎣🦑🦑 location at Marang which supposedly for another 1.5 hours sail 🚤🌊 journey. Most of the time, long hours are required i.e. at least 6️⃣ hours & more in the middle of the sea 🌊🌊

So, if your trip with some females members 👭👭👭, would advise to hire a bigger boat 🛥 which with proper shower 🚿 & toilet 🚽 facilities

Hmm…She was well taken care by her travel mates 👭👫👬 to consume a piece of the motion sickness pill 💊 before the boat trip 🚤🎣🦑🦑 This is a precaution to avoid suffering seasickness 😰🌊 (unstable headache, nausea etc.) especially when the boat 🚤 anchor down ⚓️ for the squid jigging 🎣🦑🦑 location 📍 & coupled with sea waves 🌊🌊 & boating boats 🚤 in the middle of the ocean 🌊

IMG_3503.jpg

Sigh…Quite disappointing for a 1️⃣st timer like her. The luck 🍀 was not really with her & her boat mates 👭👬👬👬 that evening🏙, the weather was unfavourable ☁️🌦🌫 It was with strong sea waves 🌊🌊 especially when the boat 🚤 was sailing ventured towards the middle of the ocean 🌊 to reach to Marang, the squid jigging 🎣🦑🦑 location📍

However, personally she 👩🏻 thinks what’s more important was the experience gained. She respect the decision made by the boat 🚤 captain 👨‍✈️ of not ventured further towards the strong sea waves 🌊🌊 that night 🌃🌌 Safety of all boat mates 👭👬👬👬 more important & there is always a next time 🤗☺️

~ Everything happens for a reason ~

There were 3️⃣ boats 🚤 🚤 🚤 that unable to enjoy the squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣 fun due to the strong sea waves 🌊🌊 that night 🌃🌌

Do enjoy a full video clip 📹🎥 captured from her 1️⃣st squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣 participation, the strong sea waves 🌊🌊 was being captured too 😌

Some tips shared by her travel mates 👭👬👫 learnt from their successful squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣 participations in this recent trip to avoid seasickness 😰🌊

  1. Consume motion sickness pill 💊 at least 1️⃣ or 2️⃣ hours before boat departure 🚤🚣🏻‍♀️🚣🏻‍♂️
  2. Before the boat departure 🚤🚣🏻‍♂️🚣🏻‍♀️, advisable to avoid heavy meal🍽🍴, spicy 🌶 / oily foods etc.
  3. While on board in the boat🚤, do avoid seating at the boat engine diesel smoke 💨 area (usually the back of the boat)
  4. During the boat sailing 🚤🌊 or anchor ⚓️ moment, do avoid your eye contact 👀 or eye concentrating 👁 to the sea waves 🌊🌊 Do always have your eyes 👀👁 look far ahead
  5. If starting to feel dizzy 😵/ discomfort 😰🌊, do lye down & try to sleep 😴💤 if possible
  6. If feel like to vomit 🤢🤮 / throw out 😰🌊, just do it, no need to feel shy ☺️

If you are interested, do check out for a boat 🚤 hire which depending on the boat size, the facilities provided e.g. with jigging 🎣 equipment available, shower 🚿 cum toilet 🚽 facilities, kitchen facilities, meals 🍽🍴etc.

Ohh ya…She 👩🏻 was told usually the dinner 🍴 🍽 will be prepared by the boat 🚤 owner 👨‍✈️upon your boat 🚤 hire. The dinner menu 🍽 of course the fresh squid 🦑🦑 from the ocean 🌊 as main dish for the night 🌃🌌

Hmm…Even though herself & her boat mates 👭👬👬👬 weren’t able to sail 🚤🌊 to Marang for the night 🌃🌌 & enjoyed the supposedly squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣 fun…😌🙃

Guess what❓⁉️

Still got chance to enjoy the big squid 🦑🦑…No should say huge squid 🦑🦑 BBQ 🔥 feast as dinner 🍽🍴😋🤤

Frankly, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 is not really a squid 🦑🦑 lover 😘💗 (as you all know from her food blogging 👩🏻‍💻📝 here, she loves prawns 😘🦐🦐), however that night 🌃🌌 she truly enjoyed very much the BBQ squid feast 🔥🦑🦑🍽🍴

IMG_3614.jpg

The local people 👭👬👫 has recommended her to taste the BBQ squid 🔥🦑🦑 with the special homemade spicy 🌶 sauce prepared, however she didn’t ❌ dip it at all. She prefers the natural sweetness from the fresh squid 🦑🦑 itself with some salty taste from the sea 🌊 water 💦 💧 So so tasty delicious 😋🤤

She really missed the superb yummy 😋🤤 taste of the huge fresh squid while blogging 👩🏻‍💻📝 her experience here though…Ha…Ha…Hungry…hungry…😋😋

Do enjoy a short clip 📹🎥 captured by her to share her huge squid BBQ 🔥 🦑🦑🍽🍴 feast. Hmm…Just don’t get hungry 😋🤤 while watching this clip 📹🎥 ya 😝😜

Will definitely be back for this squid 🦑🦑 jigging 🎣 again‼️😃😎

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 wanna has a dating 👩🏻🎣🦑🦑 with the squid again ya 😁

  1. Oh wow, I didn’t know there is such festival dedicated to Squid fishing… it looks really fun and exciting haha but I actually don’t think I am confident enough to catch one… first of all, i might get seasick too and second… i have this strange fear in anything moving under the water .. it freaks me out for some reason haha
Nevertheless.. it seems like a fun festivity and absolutely worth a try!
