According to 1ïžâƒŁ of the Mah Meri đŸ‘čđŸ‘ș wood carver (Oppsss…She forgot to ask ❓about his name), he shared that sometimes he carves the sculptures as per his dreams 💭 The forms & figures actually appeared a few times in the dreams 💭 which most of the Mah Meri đŸ‘čđŸ‘șwood carvers would believe the messages 📜 from the other world 🌍 to them for spiritual wood carvings 😊

So, upon waking up, he would then set to carve the figures that he encountered in his dreams 💭  He added that some sculptures are carved for the purpose of healing too

Rentak Selangor 2018 (Part 1)

Yeah‌ âœŒđŸ»SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» has recently being invited đŸ“©đŸ“§đŸ’Œ by Tourism Selangor & participated as 1ïžâƒŁ of the international media team đŸ‘«đŸ‘đŸ‘Ź (from Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ, Indonesia đŸ‡źđŸ‡©, Japan đŸ‡ŻđŸ‡” & Korea đŸ‡°đŸ‡·) for the Rentak Selangor 2018 in MalaysiađŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ’s national language with meaning of the Beats of Selangor 😃

It’s the strategic effort for the 3ïžâƒŁrd year to further promote âŹ†ïžÂ the State of Selangor as a tourism & cultural destination in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ

Personally, SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» has learnt & discovered so much during this 5ïžâƒŁD4ïžâƒŁN trip 🚌 about the diverse co-existence of cultural traditions & ecosystems in Selangor state of Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ

Hmm…Why Selangor❓⁉

It’s because throughout the years, Selangor is 1ïžâƒŁ of the multiracial đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘«đŸ‘ states in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ that arose with beautiful đŸ˜đŸ€© blends of various vibrant cultural heritage influences in traditional dances đŸ‘čđŸ‘șđŸ’ƒđŸ»đŸ•ș& music đŸŽ¶đŸŽ§đŸŽ”đŸŽŒđŸŽ€A deep rooted musical heritage actually defines a race group’s identity & solidarity😁

What’s the objectives❓⁉

  • To promote âŹ†ïž Selangor as a tourism destination of choice while travelling to Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ
  • To introduce the culture of Selangor to a widen public đŸ‘đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘«
  • To celebrate & propagate the musical đŸŽ¶đŸŽ§đŸŽ”đŸŽŒđŸŽ€& traditional dances đŸ‘čđŸ‘șđŸ’ƒđŸ»đŸ•ș heritage of Selangor
  • To strengthen đŸ€đŸ™ŒđŸ» the collaborative relationship between Selangor Exco for Youth Generation Development (UPEN) with the participating stakeholders, international media practitioners, travel agencies & tourism industry playersđŸ‘đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘«

So, what are the beats & moves (i.e. musics đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ”& dancesđŸ’ƒđŸ»đŸ•ŽđŸ»)❓⁉

Cempuling ~ Selangor Javaneses’ Joy

It means a collection of music đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ” instruments that uses beats for different rhythm & sound brought to Selangor state of Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡ŸÂ by Sunan Kalijaga. The music đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ”played are in the form of advices for the audiences đŸ‘đŸ‘«đŸ‘Ź

  • Cem ~ A variety as the musicians đŸ‘đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘« with different background & different types & sizes of instrumentsđŸŽčđŸŽžđŸ„
  • Pul ~ All sorts of people gatheringđŸ‘đŸ‘«đŸ‘Ź
  • Iling ~ It’s the Java language to reminding each other about self, team member & communities. In religious term, it means self reflections & self reminders😀

She has enjoyed the modern Cempuling performance by Cempuling moden Cendana KlasikÂ đŸ‘đŸ‘«đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘đŸ»

Hmm…Modern Cempuling❓⁉

Because it’s including with modern musicÂ đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ” instruments e.g. keyboard đŸŽč , guitar 🎾 etc. as refer to the 2ïžâƒŁnd row of above boomerang đŸ“čđŸŽ„ captured

The music đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ” instruments for Cempuling includes Rebana Ibu, Rebana Gong, Rebana Kempul, Rebana Kempreng, Rebana Anak, Enteng-Enteng 1ïžâƒŁ, Enteng-Enteng 2ïžâƒŁ etc.😊

Guess what❓⁉

The songs đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ€ played with Cempuling are with a variety from songs from Java, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil etc. She enjoyed the performance of a Mandarin song by late famous Taiwanese đŸ‡čđŸ‡Œ singer, Teresa TengđŸ’đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Do enjoy a video clip đŸ“čđŸŽ„ captured by SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» for sharing here,

Urumee MelumÂ àź‰àź±àŻàźźàźżàźźàŻ‡àźłàźźàŻ Drummers ~ Calling of the Gods’ Spirit đŸ„đŸ„

This is the most vibrant đŸ€© & essential of the Malaysian-Indian traditions found in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ with its double-headed hourglass-shaped drum originated from the state of Tamil Nadu, South of India 🇼🇳

This music đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ”has been widely believed to possess deep sacred power & it mostly associated with the trance rituals of calling of the gods’ spirit. It’s slung with a cloth strap across the shoulder & played by the drummer đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘ŹđŸ‘ŹđŸ„horizontally. It’s played entirely with sticks & simply allows the drummer to either play it by standing 👬 or walking đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïž around

Do enjoy a short clip đŸ“čđŸŽ„ captured by SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» at Batu Caves 🏞 with the awesome đŸ‘đŸ» performance by the drummers 👬👬👬 đŸ„from the Chinna Rasa Urumee Melum Masana Kali

Some of the music đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒđŸŽ”đŸ„ instruments including Urumee, Thavil, Pambai, Jaldra etc.

She was informed that all the drummers of this music group are very self discipline i.e. only perform the music with full proper praying attire 👕👖as their performance attire, bare foot 👣 & with no âŒđŸ»drinking & smoking❌🚬habits to respect this holy tradition heritage. They are all with normal diet (not necessary vegetarian) except some major prayers/ festivals 🎉🎊which require fasting before their performance at ceremonies/ temples⛩
