Places To Visit & Things To Do

Kampung Tasek, Pengkalan Hulu

It’s a Siamese village where approximately 90% residents here are Siamese, while 5% Chinese & 5% Indian

This village very near to Thailand đŸ‡č🇭 border to arrive at Betong city of Thailand, a Thai food paradise ya đŸ˜‹đŸ‘đŸ»

Address📍: https://maps.app.goo.gl/vvabqqhTvUDwB8Ak8

Durian Orchards, Kampung Tasek

It’s a huge area with different local owners of durian orchards here. Hmm… It’s kind of special to visit a durian orchard while not the durian season, so a different way to appreciate the greenery of durian trees here. The durian varieties here are Musang King & Blackthorn in season annually ~ July & August. She understands that the gross profit of kampung durian approximately RM500/ tree vs the gross profit of Musang King approximately RM2k/tree. So, priority to plant Musang King durian trees here with aims to increase âŹ†ïž the community living in this Kampung Tasek

SiennyLovesDrawing has learnt that the durian trees will get disease equivalent to cancer if not take care properly during her visit here

It would be great đŸ‘đŸ» excitements to revisit a huge 500 acres (âŹ†ïž acre approximately 33 trees) orchard owned by Bina Terra Sdn Bhd to enjoy the durian fruits here the coming durian season of July to Aug annually. According to Mr Ken Leong of Bina Terra Sdn Bhd, it took 4 to 5 years to start for plantation. Its weather cooling especially at night here, it’s suitable for durian plantation. There are 5 zones ie. Zones A to E for scheduling of durian plantation, however with same harvesting time & year 2022 is the 1st year of fruit production. It’s for local supplies & international market for durian exporting market ie. China 🇹🇳, Singapore 🇾🇬 , Thailand đŸ‡č🇭 etc. In long term planning of building a process durian factory 🏭 & a village homestay here as explained by Mr Ken

Also visited a durian processing factory that actually then exported the durian fruits to overseas. It’s amazingly learnt that freeze technology actually can keep the freshness of the local fruits, especially when her travel mate shown to SiennyLovesDrawing a frozen mangosteen đŸ€©đŸ˜‹đŸ‘đŸ» Advanced technology in food industry adopted here. All with vacuum packed as the oxygen from the air will make the durian sour tastes for export market

Do contact Majlis Perbandaran Pengkalan Hulu (Details below) for arrangements if you wish to have a group tour visiting ya

Lastly, we stopped by Tasik Ceria Agro Farm (It’s 9ïžâƒŁ acres & already more than 30 years) which is a famous spot during the durian seasons (Late May to late July) to enjoy fresh durian Musang King, D24, Blackthorn etc. under the tree 🌳🌳 or with a tent. Visitors can walk in to enjoy durian eating with no min headcount & just pay what you have eaten according to market price. It also provides packages here with durian feast & local Thai village dishes by local chefs for a group package of at least 20pax, advance booking is required. Istana Singgah Raja Reman, Pengkalan Hulu

It’s a wooden palace with more than 💯 years ago of an ancient kingdom called the Kingdom of Reman or Kingdom of Rahman (1810 to 1920), 1ïžâƒŁ of the 7ïžâƒŁ regions of Pattani Kingdom. This palace was also used as a stopover place for the descendants of King Reman to visit his conquered colonies in the northern region

However, on 16 July 1909, the surrender of Reman District to the state of Perak took place at Kroh (NKA Pengkalan Hulu) as a result of the intervention of the Siamese & British Governments. Read more about Kingdom of Reman via 🌐 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Reman

This is the 1ïžâƒŁst time SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» actually visited a wooden palace 👑

This wooden palace is now managed by the 7ïžâƒŁthe generation of Tengku Putra as a gallery, the only treasure from King Reman that left for his descendants. From her recent visit, she understands that some of the valuable items that are the treasures of the family of King Reman’s descendants have been taken by their relatives & descendants who live all over Malaysia & some in Thailand to keep as souvenirs

According to the gallery management, entrance is currently 🆓, however admission fee may apply in the future. So, quick quick plan your gallery visit whenever you’re at Pengkalan Hulu ya 😁

Malaysia-Thailand Border Stone 1968 Kroh ~ Betong Tragedy Memorial Site

It’s important to remember the services of the heroes who died defending the country from the enemy once upon a time. This bloody incident occurred on 20 July 1979, when a convoy transporting patients from Baling to Kroh was ambushed by a group of communist terrorists. The convoy that was attacked consisted of an ambulance, a military truck and two military Land Rover vehicles. The communist attack left three soldiers and two civilians dead
This memorial site was built to commemorate the communist terrorist ambush in Kroh NKA Pengkalan Hulu in year 1979 to remember & inspire the best kept in the folds of history

Rumah Ayah An Rusa & Kelulut 🩌🐝

Visitors can enjoy light meals with tame friendly deers 🩌🩌(Themoressis deer from Nusantara Indonesia đŸ‡źđŸ‡©) surrounding you here with a fee, it’s an exciting experience, SiennyLovesDrawing kept lol 😆 when the deer 🩌🩌 kiss her hand to get the organic pallets đŸ˜‚đŸ€ŁđŸ˜„ Ha…Ha…Ha…

Each of the deers here with a name given by the founder, Ms Herlyza ‘s mum eg. A 3ïžâƒŁ years old deer named Rama Rama. Each can be recognized from the behaviors of each deer 🩌 When started, initially with 2ïžâƒŁ female deers, then now with 11 female deers & 3ïžâƒŁ male deers

Some of the interesting facts that she has learnt during her visit are;

  • Female deer needs to have heart or love 💕 the male deer 🩌 1st, to release hormones to attract the male deer 🩌, then only the deer breeding happens. Baby deer max with 2ïžâƒŁ deer each time ie. Twin babies deer
  • Pregnant deer until 7ïžâƒŁ months still unable to tell from appearance, only can tell a little fat from its normal size
  • A week before give birth, the breasts of the female deer will be swollen

There is a small garden here with stingless bees (Kelulut Itama) honey 🍯 available ✅ for tasting & purchase

Do check out her happy visit with exciting deer feeding 🩌😆 & honey tasting đŸŻđŸđŸ˜‹đŸ‘đŸ» TikTok clip captured via đŸ“č🌐

The current Takong Lake Park was developed by Majlis Daerah Pengkalan Hulu (MDPH) as a multi -huge center including decorated rafts, fishing 🎣 festivals & various events with popularity among Siamese people from Southern Thailand đŸ‡č🇭

The delicious 😋 đŸ€€ & must try menu that SiennyLovesDrawing has enjoyed with friends here;

Special thanks for this ya â˜șïžđŸ™đŸ»â€ïž & SiennyLovesDrawing has met lots of 🆕 friends from this Lenggong trip, friendships forever all till we next travel trip together gather 😃😁

SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» is a proud Anak Malaysia 💕đŸ‡ČđŸ‡ŸđŸ’— & always love to share about her home country here, this time she would like to share her recent trip to Lenggong, Perak with Tourism Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ

Ohh yes âœ…đŸ‘đŸ» Lenggong Valley of Perak, Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ was a little-known backwater town, then with famous news 📰 of Perak Man (Born with congenital deformity) discovery in Gua Gunung Runtuh ie. An archeological team from Universiti Sains Malaysia Penang discovered the 11K years old “oldest & complete” human skeleton 💀 found in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ in the early 1990s. It was then successfully being listed as a UNESCO world heritage site on 30 June 2012 with 4ïžâƒŁ archaeological sites in 2ïžâƒŁ clusters ie. Gua Gunung Runtuh, Kota Tampan, Bukit Jawa & Bukit Sapi. Also listed as Lenggong Geopark since Dec 2021 đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»

Some archaeological experts have dubbed Lenggong Valley as an open-air museum ~ There is an evidence of cave drawings, skeletons 💀💀 & precious finds of weapons, stone tools, pottery, etc. It covers 1ïžâƒŁ of the longest culture sequences in a single locality in the world 🌎 Read more about Lenggong via 🌐 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenggong & via 🌐 https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1396

So, let’s check out where are the places to visit 📍📍, things to do, local foods to enjoy & hotel accommodations 😃😁 at Lenggong, Perak, Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ

Lenggong UNESCO Caves Expedition

It was a guided caving expedition by representatives of Lenggong Geopark Expert & National Heritage Depertment to conquer the Gua Kajang, Gua Memerang, Gua Asar, Gua Ngaum, Gua Puteri, Gua Kubah, Gua Gelap & trace back its glory back to the stone age. These caves are the 1ïžâƒŁst excavation sites in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ in the year 1917 đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ€©

Gua Kajang is 🔟mins drive 🚗 from Gua Gunung Runtuh where 2ïžâƒŁ female skeletons were found at the entrance of this cave. 1ïžâƒŁ of several caves in Bukit Kepala Gajah limestone massif, also was the site of the 1ïžâƒŁst cave archaeological excavation in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ back in 1917, fragments of pottery, stone tools & food residues were uncovered here. The pottery discovered here claimed to be the oldest recorded pottery in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ for the production & usage of pottery

This is an interesting cave with a unique tunnel-like structure together with fascinating stalagmites & stalactites. It offers instagrammable spots to capture lovely OOTDs with a ❓ & ♄ shapes, amazing đŸ˜đŸ€©

Gua Memerang with its name that a memerang aka otter looking natural formed within this cave
Gua Asar with its name from the Muslim prayer Azan Asar was played when this cave was discovered
Gua Ngaum was 1ïžâƒŁst site discovered in 1990 by a team from University Science Malaysia. It was named ‘ngaum’ after a tiger 🐯🐅 was heard roaring outside the mouth of the cave soon after it was discovered. Food remains, stone tools & potsherd ie. fragments of broken pottery were the evidence of human habitation around 7K years ago, wow đŸ˜Č
Gua Puteri is a slightly challenging cave to reach, all have to climb & hold the ropes to avoid falling down. It offers interesting natural limestone formations inside it, SiennyLovesDrawing has observed the sculptures of a princess, a Malaysia map đŸ—ș & a frog 🐾 during her recent visit
Gua Kubah is with windy đŸŒŹïž moments to walk in, a very spacious cave comparatively
Gua Gelap is the cave that you can see the fruit bat 🩇 here, you will smell their poo đŸ’© once you step in this cave. Guess what❓⁉ Their đŸ’© makes great đŸ‘đŸ» fertilizer for plants

Lenggong Valley Tour

It was a guided tour by the representatives of Lenggong Geopark Expert & National Heritage Depertment, as well as Mineral Department

Bailey Bridge 🌉 at Kampung Belum Baru was an instant yet strong wooden bridge built by the Squadron Army in 3ïžâƒŁ days which is part of the main road that is used daily, when you’re here you will sure observe the heavy vehicles to/ from this bridge 🌉 with goods transporting

Hmm…So shy to share that SiennyLovesDrawing accidentally fell down from this bridge 🌉😂 while snapped photos, luckily just her right leg đŸŠ”, if both her legs, she will be dropped to Sungai Perak & she doesn’t know how to swim đŸŠđŸ»â€â™€ïžđŸ˜°đŸ˜± Thanks God, she was safe with a memorable bruises moment during this trip 😂

LoL 😆, this was the photo & the broken hole đŸ•łïž as you observed behind her in this photo was how her right leg đŸŠ” got fell down. Moral of the story is we as visitors & travellers need to be careful with our surroundings while busy taking photos or videos. During dinner on that night, she had a chat with the Majlis Daerah Lenggong team about her incident & she was told that they have submitted requests to the Jabatan Kerja Raya to continuously repair & maintenance this bridge 🌉, some of the maintenance work already on going, just that finding suitable wood to replace the broken parts of this bridge 🌉 take time as not easy to find the equivalent wood quality

SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» greatly appreciates the actions taken to ensure the locals & visitors’ safety at this heritage bridge moving forward đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»

#TravelogueMalaysia: A Stay Vacation @ Belum Rainforest Resort

Yeah‌ SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» & her media friends đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘đŸ‘« recently travelled đŸŽ’đŸ•¶đŸ§ąđŸ‘Ÿfor a nature 💚🌳🌳 comfy 😌 stay vacation đŸ›ŒđŸ›‹đŸ›€đŸ» at Belum Rainforest Resort💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡, Perak, West Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ

She đŸ‘©đŸ» really loves ❀ the beautiful 😍 nature of Belum-Temengor Rainforest 💚🌳🌳💚

Royal Belum State Park 💚🌳🌳💚 is a 130 million years old rainforest 🌳🌳 & the untouched forest 🌳🌳 is home to a large variety of flora & fauna đŸ˜đŸ€©

Guess what❓⁉

It’s 1ïžâƒŁ of the attractions📍📍not to be missed to searching for the precious bloom of the World đŸ—ș🌍 ‘s largest & arguably smelliest flower đŸŒș i.e. Rafflesia

It found all over Southeast Asia 🌎 i.e. from Southern Thailand đŸ‡č🇭 to Philippines đŸ‡”đŸ‡ Each species can be identified by the unique patterns on the petals. There are 8ïžâƒŁ species of Rafflesias đŸŒș can be found in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ with 3ïžâƒŁ of them are endemic to the Malay Peninsula & of course can be found in the Belum-Temengor rainforest complex 💚🌳🌳💚

Note: Photo 📾 above credit to IG @eddy_rush_fp đŸ™‹đŸżâ€â™‚ïž

She đŸ‘©đŸ» has visited the 3ïžâƒŁrd time in 2018 & her volunteering trip with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS)💚, you may enjoy reading 📖 her ecotourism & hornbill 🐩 conservation volunteering via 🌐https://siennylovesdrawing.wordpress.com/2018/10/01/ecotourism-belum-temenggor/

Sigh…She đŸ‘©đŸ» still missed a chance to personally view 👀 the blossom huge Rafflesia đŸŒș cry…cry…cry…😭😭😭

Yeah‌ Happy 😃safe arrival from a full of laughtersss đŸ€ŁđŸ˜† of approximately 6ïžâƒŁ-hour travel journey 🚐 from Kuala Lumpur (KL) city 🏙🌆 early morning 🔅🔆 with Travel with Aidil to Belum Rainforest Resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 by Emkay Group as 1ïžâƒŁ of the Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ ’s premier ecotourism 💚 destination📍

It offering the chance to get close to nature 💚 especially for nature lovers & travel lovers. You will definitely enjoy the complete relaxation 😌 & serenity with its quiet & green nature surroundings 💚🌳🌳💚

Hmm…If you are driving 🚗🚙 through North East Highway towards Kelantan, you will pass 2ïžâƒŁ scenic bridges 🌉 i.e. you are actually passing on an island 🏖🏝

Lake Temenggor 🏞 is MalaysiađŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿâ€™s 2ïžâƒŁnd largest lake 💩💧& home to more than 23 species of freshwater fish 🐟 & at least 5ïžâƒŁ species of turtles 🐱🐱 As the lake 💩💧covers 117.5k hectares & contains 6k million cubic metres of water 💩💧 , who knows what other creatures live there that have yet to be discovered 😉

Guess what❓⁉

Pulau Banding 🏝🏖 in Belum Temenggor complex 💚🌳🌳💚 i.e. the public jetty ⚓ & Belum Rainforest Resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏡 is located actually was not an island 🏖🏝 Instead it’s 1ïžâƒŁ Malaysian đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ historical & beautiful scenic location 📍

In 1970, due to the effort to fight communist & to build a hydro 💩💧electric dam has resulted in part of the Belum-Temenggor forest complex 💚🌳🌳💚 submerged in the water 💩💧of Sungai Perak. It took 4ïžâƒŁ years to build the 2ïžâƒŁ bridges 🌉🌉 to providing the convenience of East North East travelling 🚗🚙 via a scenic đŸ˜đŸ€© highway. The view of the 1ïžâƒŁst bridge 🌉 is spectacular from Belum Rainforest Resort💚🌳🌳💚🏡🏡

Hmm…Why this resortđŸ’šđŸŒłđŸŒłđŸĄđŸ˜đŸĄâ“â‰ïž

You have to venture into this 130 million years old rainforest 🌳🌳 & view mother nature 💚💚 at its finest, so let’s plan your stay vacation đŸ›ŒđŸ›‹đŸ›€đŸ» too at Belum Rainforest Resort 💚🌳🌳💚🏡🏡

Definitely you will enjoy your stay đŸ›ŒđŸ›‹đŸ›€đŸ»experience in the comfort of a spacious traditional designed chalet style room 🏡 in the middle of a rainforest 🌳🌳 setting with a great đŸ‘đŸ» view from the private balcony overlooking the Temengor Lake & lush surroundings 🏞💩💧

It’s not ❌ for luxury stay & your stay actually contribute to the rainforest 🌳🌳 protection fund 💰 Yeah‌ A meanigful nature conservation 💚 stay with this resort ya 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡

She đŸ‘©đŸ» has made a visit to the Pulau Banding Discovery Centre 🏠 to understand better đŸ‘đŸ» its nature 💚 conservation & rainforest 🌳🌳 protection efforts. Bravoâ€ŒïžđŸ‘đŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»

Curious đŸ€” about its hotel room❓⁉

SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» was checked-in 🔐 with her media best buddy 👭 in a spacious comfy Chengal Lake View Executive Deluxe room (with a balcony & bath tub đŸ›€đŸ» )

Oppsss…Her room not really seeing the lake view as the trees 🌳 in front of her room just so tall…Ha…Ha…Instead she got a nice green view 💚

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Hmm…As a go green 💚supporter, SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» wishes this ecotourism resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 can consider to set up some water 💩💧 dispensers within its resort compound 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 & then prepare the glass water bottles/ jugs/ flasks in hotel rooms, instead of plastic bottled water 💩💧 for all its guests đŸ‘«đŸ‘đŸ‘Ź This definitely will reduce âŹ‡ïž lots of the plastic usage

There are plenty of room types range from dorm, executive room, villa etc. for your resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 stay selection ✅

Hmm…The resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 wifi đŸ“¶ connection was surprisingly slow & frequent down to connect 😔🙃Though was provided with alternative Unifi connectionđŸ“¶, however it required for long email ID & password to connect, hope this inconvenience for guests đŸ‘đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘« can be enhanced soon

Hornbill Restaurant

Upon arrival 🚐💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡, she đŸ‘©đŸ» had a simple fried rice lunch đŸœserved here, it’s very tasty delicious đŸ˜‹đŸ€€

Ha…Ha…Guess what❓⁉

This is a conservation 💚 effort by the Belum Conservation Malaysia (BCM) by planting the gaharu 🌳 trees in the Belum-Temenggor Rainforest Complex 🌳🌳 with the celebrities đŸ’ƒđŸ»đŸ•ŽđŸ»đŸ•șđŸŒđŸ‘©đŸ»â€đŸŽ€đŸ‘šđŸŸâ€đŸŽ€as well as its resort guests đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘đŸ‘«

How to❓⁉

Do contribute RM💯💰 to support this Gaharu 🌳 tree planting

Frog 🐾 Hunting

Awesome 1ïžâƒŁst experience she đŸ‘©đŸ» had with her media friends 👭👬👬👬 after dinner đŸœđŸŽ

It was really a fun activity with friends 👭👬👬👬 to hunt with torch light 🔩 & then help each other with lighting 💡 to capture the frogs found 🐾🐾

Guess what❓⁉

She đŸ‘©đŸ» has spotted the baby frogs aka tadpoles in a pond 💩💧 from her hunting. Hurrayâ€ŒïžđŸ˜đŸ˜ƒ

It’s just within the resort 💚🌳🌳🏡🏘🏡 compound, yes✅, the various small ponds 💩💧

Do enjoy the music/ song by the frogs 🐾🐾 being captured by SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ»Â  for sharing ya

Sungai Ruok Waterfall 💩💧

Initially this trekking đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïžđŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïžto reach the waterfall 💩💧 & Rafflesia đŸŒș spot site was called to cancel ❌ due to a heavy rain â˜”ïžđŸŒ§ when the boat đŸš€ about to reach

Special thank you đŸ™đŸ» to the responsible đŸ‘đŸ» boatman đŸš€đŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïž named Mr Mazlan, he đŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïž went himself 1ïžâƒŁst to check & ensure đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïžâœ… it’s still safe to do the trekking đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïž in the rain â˜”ïžđŸŒ§

Yeah‌ He confirmed ✅ & all set with rain coat & trekking đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïž walked slowly in the jungle 🌳🌳

She đŸ‘©đŸ» was bare foot 👣 for this trekking đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïžas she refused to get her sport shoes 👟 wet from the rain â˜”ïžđŸŒ§

Luckily she đŸ‘©đŸ»Â doesn’t hurt her feet (Yeah!! She đŸ‘©đŸ»Â is qualified to join as local indigeneous communities in this rainforest). No leeches attack too, hurray!!

Ecotourism @ Belum Temenggor

It’s World 🌍đŸ—ș Habitat Day today, every year the 1ïžâƒŁst Monday of October

Yeah‌SiennyLovesDrawingÂ đŸ‘©đŸ»Â is gonna sharing đŸ‘©đŸ»â€đŸ’»đŸ“ about her recent volunteer participation with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), a non-governmental non-profit organization (NGO) to learn about ecotourism 💚 @ Belum Temenggor🌳🌳, in particular hornbill conservation & habitat for its local communities ~ indigenous people aka orang asli đŸ‘¶đŸœđŸ‘§đŸœđŸ§’đŸœđŸ‘ŠđŸœđŸ§‘đŸœđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™€ïžđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïžđŸ‘”đŸœđŸ§“đŸœđŸ‘ŽđŸœin Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿâ€™s national language

Since 2004, MNS aims to promoting hornbills conservation in Belum Temenggor Forest Complex 🌳🌳 (BTFC)(1ïžâƒŁof the oldest virgin rainforest on Earth, 130 million years old) & to enhancing public awareness of the importance of hornbills to the rainforests’🌳🌳 ecosystem đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»

Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ is home 🏡 to 🔟 Malaysian hornbills & dubbed the ‘Hornbill Capital of the World🌍’ with its Perak state being recognized as the Land of Hornbills

  1. Oriental Pied Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental_pied_hornbill
  2. Black Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hornbill
  3. Bushy-crested Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushy-crested_hornbill
  4. White-crowned Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-crowned_hornbill
  5. Wreathed Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wreathed_hornbill

  8. Great Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_hornbill
  9. Rhinoceros Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinoceros_hornbill
  10. Helmeted Hornbill, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmeted_hornbill

Not only Borneo‌ Yes ✅, in fact Peninsular Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡ŸÂ with all  🔟 hornbill species comparatively 😃

This volunteer participation has recalled her memory of 1ïžâƒŁst hornbill feeding @ Pangkor Island early this year

BTFC 🌳🌳 aka Northern Peninsular MalaysiađŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿâ€™s Natural Jewels 💎, the only remaining contiguous block to tropical rainforests 🌳🌳 which linking to Southern Thailand đŸ‡č🇭 i.e. Bang Lang National Park & Hala Bala Wildlife Sanctuary, also part of the Titiwangsa Range 💚

Currently, only BTFC 🌳🌳 & the Greater Ulu Muda Forest Complex 🌳🌳 are on par for the hornbill diversity in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ, then together with the Southern Thailand đŸ‡č🇭, all made up for the Hornbill Triangle (HoT)đŸ”ș

Hornbills get its name from its horn-like projection i.e. a casque on their beaks (Hmm…Not all hornbill species have them though) 😊

Hornbills are well known as the farmers đŸ‘šđŸ»â€đŸŒŸđŸ‘©đŸ»â€đŸŒŸ of the rainforests 🌳🌳

Hornbills fly long distances looking for fruits🍎🍏 & swallow fruits🍎🍏in whole. Hmm…Some fruits 🍎🍏 are with big seeds. As they spit out countless seeds, some seeds find a place to grow & become new 🆕 trees 🌳🌳

However, really dissappointed & sad 😧😔 that some of the hornbill species are experiencing critically endangered & vulnerable. In this connection, if lesser âŹ‡ïž hornbills, many rainforest trees 🌳🌳 that depend on them to spread their seeds may disappear from the rainforest 🌳🌳eventually

Why❓⁉ Why❓⁉Why❓⁉

Some of the main reasons are destruction/ loss of the hornbills’ habitats & degradation due to deforestation (Photo 📾 below captured from BRAINS Summit 2018), fragmentation of rainforests 🌳🌳, illegal logging (Photo 📾 below captured by SiennyLovesDrawingÂ đŸ‘©đŸ»Â during her volunteer trip), poaching & hunting, conversion to agriculture e.g. oil palm plantations, over-development etc. 😧😔

As the rainforests 🌳🌳disappear, so does indigenous peoplesâ€™đŸ‘¶đŸœđŸ‘§đŸœđŸ§’đŸœđŸ‘ŠđŸœđŸ§‘đŸœđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™€ïžđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïžđŸ‘”đŸœđŸ§“đŸœđŸ‘ŽđŸœculture too 😧😔 as their living style very much depended on the rainforests 🌳🌳 for medicine, shelter, food, other necessities etc. They are not known to take more than what they need as this would be seen as a transgression of the rainforest 🌳🌳 & would bring curses to their people. So, the destruction of their prime resource is resulting in the destruction of their traditional ways of life 😧😔

You may not aware that BTFC 🌳🌳consists of 2ïžâƒŁ big parts,

  1. Temengor Forest Reserve ~ the southern part of BTFC is largely a production forest 🌳🌳
  2. Royal Belum State Park ~ the northern part, a protected area🌳🌳

MNS has been working hard for years to get the whole BTFC a protected area 🌳🌳 with its ecotourism 💚 efforts đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ’ȘđŸ»Â Hope they will achieve success very soon

“MY forest 🌳 , MY wildlife, MY responsibility”

Curious đŸ€” about what SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» has participated & learnt during her 4ïžâƒŁD3ïžâƒŁN volunteering with MNS❓⁉

MNS Hornbill Festival🎉🎊

The 1ïžâƒŁst  festival 🎉🎊 & annually every 16 Septto bring awareness & encourage orang asliđŸ‘¶đŸœđŸ‘§đŸœđŸ§’đŸœđŸ‘ŠđŸœđŸ§‘đŸœđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™€ïžđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïžđŸ‘”đŸœđŸ§“đŸœđŸ‘ŽđŸœcommunities to participate for hornbill conservation under the Malaysian đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ implementation of the project, My Forest ~ “Strengthening Non-State Actor Involvement in Forest Governance in Indonesia đŸ‡źđŸ‡© , Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ , the Philippines đŸ‡”đŸ‡ & Papua New Guinea đŸ‡”đŸ‡Ź ” which funded by the European Union đŸ‡ȘđŸ‡ș

She has captured an interview clip đŸ“čđŸŽ„Â with Mr Balu, the Head of Conservation with MNS ~ “Hornbill Conservation Effort by MNS

MY forest is a highâŹ†ïž-impact partnership, as it looks at MalaysiađŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿâ€™s natural 💚 heritage ~ rainforests 🌳🌳 & how non-state actors ~ non-governmental organisations, civil societies, local communities, the private sector & the public – can inform & change policies towards better rainforest governance.  Under this 5ïžâƒŁ-year project (2017-2021), MNS is tasked with building the capacity of non-state actors from all around Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡ŸÂ to engage more effectively with the government in protecting MalaysiađŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿâ€™s rainforests 🌳🌳

She had great interactions with the orang asli kids đŸ‘¶đŸœđŸ‘§đŸœđŸ§’đŸœđŸ‘ŠđŸœđŸ§‘đŸœÂ & adultsđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™€ïžđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïžđŸ‘”đŸœđŸ§“đŸœđŸ‘ŽđŸœabout nature awareness, art🎹🖍activities, sumpit, balloons🎈🎈, survey questionnaires❓❓etc. by using simple Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ ‘s national language ~ Bahasa Melayu đŸ‘ŒđŸ»âœŒđŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»

She got inspired by the orang asli hornbill guardians’ passion 💗 towards hornbills conservation đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»Â Truly motivated with the positivity đŸ™đŸ»đŸ‘†đŸ»Really wish local communities here with skills gained from ecotourism efforts by MNS to improving their overall living lifestyle & being happy self sufficient đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ’ȘđŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»

Orang Asli Villages Visit

Chuweh Village

Arrival & impressed with its beautiful scenery from this village

SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ»Â & team went to visit the Hornbill House 🏡 aka Rumah Enggang 🏡 in Malaysia đŸ‡ČđŸ‡Ÿ ’s national language. Each MNS volunteers period only for 4ïžâƒŁïžpax due to the limited space

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

SheÂ đŸ‘©đŸ»Â didn’t stay here due to her volunteer team with 9ïžâƒŁïžpax. Communicated to 1ïžâƒŁïžÂ of the volunteer named Ms ChristineđŸ™‹â€â™€ïžwho stayed here & she complimented that she really enjoyed this 5ïžâƒŁïžÂ star ⭐👍👆volunteering accommodation 🏡 in this village

A briefing by Mr Yeap & the orang asli hornbill guardians to all volunteers about the hornbills counting

Then, sheđŸ‘©đŸ»has learnt & experienced the use of blowgun aka sumpit 😀 Obviously she failed miserably, perhaps a good reason to volunteer again next Aug/ Sept, Ha…Ha…

Tasted some orang asli traditional dishes as tea time e.g. Perah nuts đŸ„œ(Oppsss…Superb addictive delicious đŸ˜‹đŸ€€â€Œïž She even has placed next order 📌 of 2ïžâƒŁïžkgs with Mr WoođŸ™‹đŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸ€ŁđŸ˜†), cassava & wild fern (paku pakis) from forest 🌳🌳etc.

Had a short chat đŸ—ŁđŸ‘€with Mr YeapđŸ™‹đŸ»â€â™‚ïž, the Senior Conservation Officer with MNS on hornbill studies for almost 1ïžâƒŁ8ïžâƒŁ years & pursuing his PhD. Do enjoy an interview clip đŸ“čđŸŽ„Â with him about his hornbill conservation experiences

Guess what❓⁉

She really viewed the flying Oriental Pied hornbills twice with binocular‌So so happy😃😁

Also viewed the wild elephants 🐘🐘 crossed the river 💩💧Yeah‌ So so lucky 🍀 for herself & volunteers team as the visitors to the rainforest

However, Mr Yeap đŸ™‹đŸ»â€â™‚ïžÂ has alerted that if elephants 🐘🐘 are so near to human, it’s bad news to the orang asli as the elephants 🐘🐘 gonna destroy their houses 🏡🏡 & crops plantedđŸŒ±đŸŒżSigh…

She has met the youngest volunteer named Shane đŸ‘ŠđŸ», 6ïžâƒŁ years old & son to Ms Christine (Blue 💙 t-shirt in the photos 📾📾 below). Highly recommended đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘†đŸ»as 1ïžâƒŁ of the great education opportunities & childhood memories for kids

An interview đŸ“čđŸŽ„Â clip with Mr Woo Chee Yong, the conservation research assistant with MNS on “Why to participate for Hornbill Volunteer Programme❓⁉”

Despite learning about hornbill conservation & orang asli đŸ‘¶đŸœđŸ‘§đŸœđŸ§’đŸœđŸ‘ŠđŸœđŸ§‘đŸœđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™€ïžđŸ™‹đŸœâ€â™‚ïžđŸ‘”đŸœđŸ§“đŸœđŸ‘ŽđŸœliving, SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ»Â would like to share some exciting moments during her short volunteering,

  • Jungle 🌳🌳 trekkingđŸš¶â€â™‚ïžđŸš¶â€â™€ïž& sunset 🌅 cruiseÂ đŸš€
  • Rafflesia spots (However, it wasn’t the Rafflesia blossom season, so she just got to view some flower buds & dried dead Rafflesia)
  • Elephant 🐘 saltlicks aka Sira Gajah
  • Observed elephants foot prints & poo poo, sun bear paw prints on tree trunk etc.

Ordered deep fried radish cake, durian juicy bun, mushroom 🍄 mai, seaweed mai, chicken 🐓🐔 siew mai, prawn 🩐 dumpling, fried prawn đŸ€ dumpling, custard juicy bun, chicken 🐓🐔 & century egg đŸ„š porridge đŸ„Ł etc.

Hmm…Because this cafe opens since morning🔅🔆, so evening 🏙 time lots of dimsum items sold out

SiennyLovesDrawing đŸ‘©đŸ» was quite dissappointed 😟 during her order 📝 placement with friends đŸ‘«đŸ‘ where most of her ordered 📝 items including drink đŸ„€ were sold out that evening 🏙 e.g. hive yam puff, egg đŸ„š tart, chee cheong fun, cucumber đŸ„’ + sour plum juice đŸ„€ to name a few that she recalled 😟😌

It was a tasty 😋 dimsum dinner đŸŽđŸœ, she loves especially the mushroom 🍄 mai, fried prawn đŸ€ dumpling & chicken 🐓🐔 & century egg đŸ„š porridge đŸ„ŁÂ served in this cafe

Oppsss…Due to long weekend, a traffic jam 🚗🚗🚙🚙🚌🚚🚐🚛 at highway towards KL & arrived only after 5ïžâƒŁ hours đŸ˜Č😌â˜ș

Hmm…Perhaps consider to travel via ETS train 🚊 (early purchases of train ticket 🎟 is required) & then rent a car 🚘 while in Ipoh for a food đŸ˜‹đŸ€€ hunt trip ya 😉
