Rentak Selangor 2018 (Part 1)

Yeahโ€ผ๏ธ โœŒ๐ŸปSiennyLovesDrawing ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป has recently being invited ๐Ÿ“ฉ๐Ÿ“ง๐Ÿ’Œ by Tourism Selangor & participated as 1๏ธโƒฃ of the international media team ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ (from Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ, Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ, Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต & Korea ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท) for the Rentak Selangor 2018 in Malaysia๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ’s national language with meaning of the Beats of Selangor ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It’s the strategic effort for the 3๏ธโƒฃrd year to further promote โฌ†๏ธย the State of Selangor as a tourism & cultural destination in Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

Personally, SiennyLovesDrawing ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป has learnt & discovered so much during this 5๏ธโƒฃD4๏ธโƒฃN trip ๐ŸšŒ about the diverse co-existence of cultural traditions & ecosystems in Selangor state of Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

Hmm…Why Selangorโ“โ‰๏ธ

It’s because throughout the years, Selangor is 1๏ธโƒฃ of the multiracial ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ญ states in Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ that arose with beautiful ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฉ blends of various vibrant cultural heritage influences in traditional dances ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿ‘บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•บ& music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽคA deep rooted musical heritage actually defines a race group’s identity & solidarity๐Ÿ˜

What’s the objectivesโ“โ‰๏ธ

  • To promote โฌ†๏ธ Selangor as a tourism destination of choice while travelling to Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ
  • To introduce the culture of Selangor to a widen public ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ซ
  • To celebrate & propagate the musical ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽค& traditional dances ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿ‘บ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•บ heritage of Selangor
  • To strengthen ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป the collaborative relationship between Selangor Exco for Youth Generation Development (UPEN) with the participating stakeholders, international media practitioners, travel agencies & tourism industry players๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ซ

So, what are the beats & moves (i.e. musics ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต& dances๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿป)โ“โ‰๏ธ

Cempuling ~ Selangor Javaneses’ Joy

It means a collection of music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต instruments that uses beats for different rhythm & sound brought to Selangor state of Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พย by Sunan Kalijaga. The music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽตplayed are in the form of advices for the audiences ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ฌ

  • Cem ~ A variety as the musicians ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ซ with different background & different types & sizes of instruments๐ŸŽน๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿฅ
  • Pul ~ All sorts of people gathering๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ฌ
  • Iling ~ It’s the Java language to reminding each other about self, team member & communities. In religious term, it means self reflections & self reminders๐Ÿ˜€

She has enjoyed theย modernย Cempulingย performance byย Cempuling moden Cendana Klasikย ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Hmm…Modern Cempulingโ“โ‰๏ธ

Because itโ€™s including with modern musicย ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต instruments e.g. keyboard ๐ŸŽน , guitar ๐ŸŽธ etc. as refer to theย 2๏ธโƒฃnd row of above boomerang ๐Ÿ“น๐ŸŽฅ captured

The music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต instruments for Cempuling includes Rebana Ibu, Rebana Gong, Rebana Kempul, Rebana Kempreng, Rebana Anak, Enteng-Enteng 1๏ธโƒฃ,ย Enteng-Enteng 2๏ธโƒฃ etc.๐Ÿ˜Š

Guess whatโ“โ‰๏ธ

The songs ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽค played with Cempuling are with a variety from songs from Java, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil etc. She enjoyed the performance of a Mandarin song by late famous Taiwanese ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ singer, Teresa Teng๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Do enjoy a video clip ๐Ÿ“น๐ŸŽฅ captured by SiennyLovesDrawing ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป for sharing here,

Urumee Melumย เฎ‰เฎฑเฏเฎฎเฎฟเฎฎเฏ‡เฎณเฎฎเฏ Drummers ~ Calling of the Gods’ Spirit ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ

This is the most vibrant ๐Ÿคฉ & essential of the Malaysian-Indian traditions found in Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ with its double-headed hourglass-shaped drum originated from the state of Tamil Nadu, South of India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ

This music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽตhas been widely believed to possess deep sacred powerย & it mostly associated with the trance rituals of calling of the gods’ spirit. It’s slung with a cloth strap across the shoulder & played by the drummer ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿฅhorizontally. It’s played entirely with sticks & simply allows the drummer to either play it by standing ๐Ÿ‘ฌ or walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ around

Do enjoy a short clip ๐Ÿ“น๐ŸŽฅ captured by SiennyLovesDrawing ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป at Batu Caves ๐Ÿž with the awesome ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป performance by the drummers ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฌ ๐Ÿฅfrom the Chinna Rasa Urumee Melum Masana Kali

Some of the music ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿฅ instruments includingย Urumee,ย Thavil, Pambai, Jaldra etc.

She was informed that all the drummers of this music group are very self discipline i.e. only perform the music with full proper praying attire ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘–as their performance attire, bare foot ๐Ÿ‘ฃ & with no โŒ๐Ÿปdrinking & smokingโŒ๐Ÿšฌhabits to respect this holy tradition heritage. They are all with normal diet (not necessary vegetarian) except some major prayers/ festivals ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠwhich require fasting before their performance at ceremonies/ย templesโ›ฉ
