Where to Visit❓⁉️

She 👩🏻 is gonna sharing 👩🏻‍💻📝 more about Chiangmai, 🌐 https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Chiang_Mai

.

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has read 📖 from travel magazines, if travel to Chiangmai, must enjoy shopping 🛒🛍 at its many night markets, so which night markets❓⁉️

Anusarn Night Market & Chiangmai Night Bazaar

Anusarn night Market is in a covered area, off the main street & quite spacious to shopping 🛒🛍

It has food stalls, restaurants 🍽🍴& show entertainment. SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 & her travelmates 👫👭👬 were having dinner 🍽🍴 inside this market, read on below 📖🌐

According to tour guide 💁🏻‍♂️, the prices 💱 in Anusarn Market are generally cheaper as compared to the street night market, also you will find lots of handmade items here 😀

You may explore the other night bazaars & underground markets nearby too 😃

However, do get ready to bargain/ negotiate 🗣👥👤 for at least 50% lower ⬇️ from the price being offered by the local Thai vendors ya 🇹🇭👭👬👫

Most of the tourists 👭👫👬 enjoy shopping 🛒🛍 for souvenirs 💝🎁 🌴🥥 etc.

Address📍: 149/24, 149/27-28 Chang Khlan Road, Chiang Mai 50100, Northern Thailand
Operation hours🕕: 6pm to midnight & free admission 🆓🎟

Chiangmai Wualai Walking Street (aka Saturday Night Market)

Only available on Saturday night 🌃🌌 & hence famous known as Wualai Saturday Night Market with approximately 1️⃣km shopping walk 🛒🛍🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♂️

It’s linked ↔️ to Thipanet Road i.e. near the south of the old city walls, a few steps 👣 from Pratu Chiang Mai (Chiang Mai Gate) & within 10/ 15 mins walking 🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♀️distance to the highly intact Tha Phae Gate

Quite happening with the street performers 🎤🎼🎹🥁🎷🎸🎺, as well as potrait drawing services ✏️

You can shopping 🛒🛍 for hill tribe souvenirs 💝🎁, locally-made & handicraft products, famous “I Love ❤️ Thailand 🇹🇭 ” t-shirt 👚👕, fashions & accessories from local designers, tasty snacks 😋🤤, traditional Thai sweets 🍬 made from coconut 🌴🥥 , beverages 🍹🥤, Thai restaurants 🍽🍴& etc.

It’s 1️⃣ of the oldest Thai temple which originally built in the 16th century during the Mangrai Dynasty i.e. the 11th King 🤴🏻of Lanna Kingdom, Phra Muang Kaew who ruled the Thai Kingdom between 1495 to 1525 👑

About 30millions THB of construction costs 💰spent & has been rebuilt & renovated over the different historical periods by the silver craftsman in the surrounding Wua Lai community 👫👭👬 with impressive 😍🤩knowledge of fine metalwork over many generations

According to the Lanna Belief, ladies 👭👭👭are not allowed to enter the Ubosotha/ the main shrine. Also her grandma 🧓🏻 loves ❤️ to wear the wooden clogs 👡 木屐, she wore as normal sandals, not just for toilet 🚽 though. She still recalled she loves ❤️ to wear, walk 🚶🏻‍♀️around & play with her grandma 🧓🏻 wooden clogs 👡 when she was a kid 🧒🏻 Just because of the clogs 👡 sound hitting on the ground 👣 “kick kok….kick kok…” Ha…Ha…😂🤣😆

Spirit Wood Carving

The Mah Meri 👹👺 people also well known 👍🏻 with their spiritual wood carving, apart from its richness of music, songs 🎤🎼 & dances

They are mostly with the remarkable wood carving skills, in particular wood sculptures & masks 🎭 All are depict their Ari Muyang, mythical creatures, animal spirits e.g. birds 🐦🦅 , dragon 🐉 etc. from the Mah Meri’s 👹👺surroundings of swamp, sea 🌊 & forest 🌳🌳

IMG_9071.jpg

According to 1️⃣ of the Mah Meri 👹👺 wood carver (Oppsss…She forgot to ask ❓about his name), he shared that sometimes he carves the sculptures as per his dreams 💭 The forms & figures actually appeared a few times in the dreams 💭 which most of the Mah Meri 👹👺wood carvers would believe the messages 📜 from the other world 🌍 to them for spiritual wood carvings 😊

IMG_9070.jpg

So, upon waking up, he would then set to carve the figures that he encountered in his dreams 💭  He added that some sculptures are carved for the purpose of healing too

Traditionally, the materials for wood carving including nyireh stone, rare red mangrove hardwood etc. 😃

Palm/ mengkuang leaves 🌿 weaving/ origami

For Mah Meri 👹👺 females 👭 to get married👰🏻👰🏻, they must good 👍🏻 at weaving. Ha…Ha…An interesting fact learnt😆

Accordingly, most of the Mah Meri 👹👺 females 👭 are well known 👍🏻 with their impressive weaving skills. It was once said & believed that Mah Meri 👹👺leaf 🌿🍃 origami to be the oldest in the world 🗺 🌍 Wow‼️

SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 loves 💗 her head gear received from Mah Meri 👹👺 people as welcoming gift 💝 which was folded with the palm leaves 🌿🌿 upon her entering to the village 🏘🏡

Among the weaving designs are spirit flowers🌼🌻💐, birds 🐦🦅 etc., objects of adornments e.g. head gears, belts etc. to be worn for celebration 🎉 🎊 , jewelleries, purses👛👝, baskets etc.

The young fronds of the palm leaves are intricately to be folded to make offerings & ornaments for the ritual 🙏🏻 ceremonies of the Mah Meri 👺👹 people 👫👭👬

Personally, SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 has learnt & discovered so much during this 5️⃣D4️⃣N trip 🚌 about the diverse co-existence of cultural traditions & ecosystems in Selangor state of Malaysia 🇲🇾

Hmm…Why Selangor❓⁉️

It’s because throughout the years, Selangor is 1️⃣ of the multiracial 👬👫👭 states in Malaysia 🇲🇾 that arose with beautiful 😍🤩 blends of various vibrant cultural heritage influences in traditional dances 👹👺💃🏻🕺& music 🎶🎧🎵🎼🎤A deep rooted musical heritage actually defines a race group’s identity & solidarity😁

So, what are the beats & moves (i.e. musics 🎶🎼🎵& dances💃🏻🕴🏻)❓⁉️

Cempuling ~ Selangor Javaneses’ Joy

It means a collection of music 🎶🎼🎵 instruments that uses beats for different rhythm & sound brought to Selangor state of Malaysia 🇲🇾 by Sunan Kalijaga. The music 🎶🎼🎵played are in the form of advices for the audiences 👭👫👬

Urumee Melum உறுமிமேளம் Drummers ~ Calling of the Gods’ Spirit 🥁🥁

This is the most vibrant 🤩 & essential of the Malaysian-Indian traditions found in Malaysia 🇲🇾 with its double-headed hourglass-shaped drum originated from the state of Tamil Nadu, South of India 🇮🇳

This music 🎶🎼🎵has been widely believed to possess deep sacred power & it mostly associated with the trance rituals of calling of the gods’ spirit. It’s slung with a cloth strap across the shoulder & played by the drummer 👬👬👬🥁horizontally. It’s played entirely with sticks & simply allows the drummer to either play it by standing 👬 or walking 🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♂️ around

Do enjoy a short clip 📹🎥 captured by SiennyLovesDrawing 👩🏻 at Batu Caves 🏞 with the awesome 👏🏻 performance by the drummers 👬👬👬 🥁from the Chinna Rasa Urumee Melum Masana Kali

Some of the music 🎶🎼🎵🥁 instruments including Urumee, Thavil, Pambai, Jaldra etc.

She was informed that all the drummers of this music group are very self discipline i.e. only perform the music with full proper praying attire 👕👖as their performance attire, bare foot 👣 & with no ❌🍻drinking & smoking❌🚬habits to respect this holy tradition heritage. They are all with normal diet (not necessary vegetarian) except some major prayers/ festivals 🎉🎊which require fasting before their performance at ceremonies/ temples⛩

Curious 🤔 where 📍is it❓⁉️

It’s Alaeddin Palace 👑 or Bandar Jugra Palace aka Istana Bandar Lama Jugra in Malaysia 🇲🇾’s national language which was constructed using high quality timber named Cengal & marble. Its design is largely with Islamic & some influences from Indian, Middle-Eastern & Chinese (i.e. the roof’s carved fascia board & dragon 🐉 fin)

This double-storey palace 👑 has many rooms i.e. A royal 👑 bath 🛀🏻 , a throne room, a banquet room, bedrooms💤🛌, royal 👑 audiences hall, kitchen, a forbidden garden etc. It was designated as a historical monument & site under the Antiquities Act 1976 in 1980👏🏻🙌🏻
