The picture above is from Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare 🇯🇵🌐 which published as an official awareness poster for preventing the spread of COVID-19 on its official website ~ Yes ✅, the official featured Amabie for the purpose of gaining more recognition from the young generations 😃

It said that by drawing ✍🏻 Amabie can protect from the global health pandemic ~ COVID19, many Japanese artists 🇯🇵👨🏻‍🎨👩🏻‍🎨 have started with this art challenge, do check out the hashtags #アマビエチャレンジ  & #AMABIEchallenge 😁

Amabie is a legendary Japanese spirit ~ A mermaid 🧜‍♀️ or merman 🧜‍♂️ creature with fishy scales, long hair, 3️⃣ fin-like legs & a beak emerged from the sea 🌊 ~ believed to predict either a good harvest or a pandemic

It is said that the youkai Amabie appeared in 1846 at the end of the Edo period (1603-1868), appeared in a shining figure from the sea 🌊 He said that he disappeared into the sea again, leaving behind the words 😉

Amabie is said to prophesize or ward against an epidemic. Now it has been spreading as a challenge from the idea of “Let’s draw ✍🏻 Amabie & share all together against Coronavirus‼️

According to Google Trends, this mythical yokai resurfaced since early March 2020 & its popularity has spread to 5️⃣ continents with its #AMABIEchallenge hashtag

There are more than 🔟K of paintings, drawings & personalised depictions of Amabie on either Twitter/ Instagram, Japanese people 🇯🇵👫👭👬 actually begun to selling the face masks 😷 & hand sanitisers with Amabie’s image on them
