Yeahโผ๏ธ This round, SiennyLovesDrawing ๐ฉ๐ป is gonna sharing about her recent eco tourism trip to Pulau Kukup ๐ด& Tanjung Piai ๐ฟย Theย 2๏ธโฃ of the Johor National Parksย located at Southern Johor of West Malaysia ๐ฒ๐พ
Pulau Kukup Johor National Park
As shared in earlier blog post๐, Pulau Kukup ๐ด is just 2๏ธโฃ0๏ธโฃkm away from her stay at Aloha Hotel Pontian๐ขย So, after breakfast๐ฝโ๏ธ, SiennyLovesDrawing ๐ฉ๐ป & her writers gang ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌdeparted with Sitty Travel ๐ to jetty โ๏ธ (shown in photo below, yes, it’s through this seafood ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฆrestaurant๐ฝ๐ด)
Then, a short boat ๐ค ride (2๏ธโฃ0๏ธโฃmins, RM5๏ธโฃ/pax for return trip ๐ค๐ค & free ๐ for kids below 6 years old ๐ถ๐ป๐ง๐ป๐ง๐ป๐ฆ๐ป) to Pulau Kukup ๐ด
Arrived & enjoyed a slight sweaty ๐ morning ๐๐ 2๏ธโฃkm mangroves trail walk ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธhere๐
Yeahโผ๏ธ The highest ๐๐ปstilt roots & largest Hibrid Mangrove in Malaysia ๐ฒ๐พ
In Jan 2003, this mangrove island, an ecological treasure trove was granted with the status of a๐ Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Convention Site), by the Geneva-based Ramsar Convention Bureau๐๐ป
If you are a bird ๐ฆ ๐ฆ loversโค๏ธ, do visit here for theย seasonalย migratory bird ๐ฆ ๐ฆ watching ๐ญspectacle
Pulau Kukup ๐ด encompases 3๏ธโฃ villages i.e. Kukup Laut, Air Masin & Kampung Melayu. It’s essentially a fishing ๐ฃ village which is famous for seafood๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐, local produced shrimp ๐ฆ paste (aka belacan in Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พ national language), salted fish๐, dried shrimps๐ฆ, cage cultured fish ๐ farms etc.
Do enjoy a short clip ๐น๐ฅ captured from her recent trip there๐
There is also another ferry โด jetty โ๏ธ & immigration checkpoint to Batam Island & Karimun Island of Indonesia ๐ฎ๐ฉ
Let’s plan your visit to this nature reserve mangroves island ya ๐คฉ

Yeahโผ๏ธ Time for lunch ๐ฝ๐ด1๏ธโฃst before the next destination of the dayโ๏ธ๐
Hmm…Whereโโ๏ธ
It’s atย Johor Riau Restaurant ๐ฝ๐ดwhich served Malay seafood ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐cuisine with Johor style๐๐คค
Wowโผ๏ธMany many seafood ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ dishes servedโผ๏ธSiennyLovesDrawing’s ๐ฉ๐ป happy face ๐ as a food lover ๐๐คค Ha…Ha…
All dishes were so fresh & delicious๐๐ป, highly recommended ๐๐ปto dine ๐ฝ here if you are on your way to visit Tanjung Piai๐ฟ
Whyโโ๏ธ
It’s just so so near to it, or should say you will definitely passby Johor Riau on your way to Tanjung Piai๐ฟ
She learnt that as Johor tradition, almost all Johor restaurants ๐ฝ๐ดespecially seafood ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐restaurants will definitely served Horseshoe Crab aka Belangkas in Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พ national language
Curious about how it looks likeโโ๏ธDo stay tune for her next post ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ป๐where she will be sharing her visit to horseshoe crab conservation centre๐
It’s her 1๏ธโฃst time to taste horseshoe crab & she loves ๐ itโ๏ธJohor Riau served it inย “lemak cili padi๐ถ” (Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พ national language) cooking style๐จ๐ปโ๐ณ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณ
Guess whatโโ๏ธ
There is no crab meat to enjoy, instead enjoy the delicious crunchy ๐๐คค crab roes/ eggs of it๐
Another dish that she loves ๐ from Johor Riau is the seafood otak-otakย (another signature Johor dish) served here๐๐ป๐๐ป
It’s so delicious with its unique Johor recipe with dried coconut ๐ฅฅ ๐ด in it. A mouthful of light coconut ๐ฅฅ fragrant blended well with the fresh seafood ๐ฆ๐ ingredientsโ๏ธTastebud satisfiedโ๏ธ๐
How about other seafood ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ dishes enjoyedโโ๏ธ
- Soup Riau ๐ฒ (served with crabs๐ฆ )
- Spicy ๐ถ sour fish ๐ (aka “ikan asam pedas” in Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พnational language)
- Spices cooked snails ๐ (aka siput sedut berempah)
- Black pepper clams
- Malay style salad ๐ฅ aka ulam
- Fish ๐ served in “Bebotok” style
Do enjoy a short clip ๐น๐ฅ captured from her Johor style seafood ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ dining ๐ฝ๐ดhere โบ๏ธ
Hmm…Hope you all don’t craving ๐คค๐คค for seafood ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ after watching ๐๐๐ ya
Address๐:ย J48, Tanjung Piai, 82300 Kukup, Johor, Westย Malaysia

Yeahโผ๏ธ After a satisfied ๐๐๐ป๐delicious lunch๐ฝ๐ด, happily travelling ๐ to…
Tanjung Piai ๐ฟNational Park
Wowโผ๏ธ This welcome landmark monument made of eco-friendly fibre reinforced concrete with 2๏ธโฃ0๏ธโฃm height & ๐m width. Its stark grey โป๏ธ colour represents the rich mangroves & mudflats of Tanjung Piai๐ฟ
1๏ธโฃst photo ๐ธ captured before another eco walk๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธhere
Hmm…Why Piaiโโ๏ธ
It’s named after a local fern ๐ฟ plant aka Paku Piai ๐ฟ in Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พnational language. This plant is capable of living in brackish water conditions i.e. scattered in this park๐
Tanjung Piai ๐ฟ is the southern most point ofย Peninsular Malaysia ๐ฒ๐พ &ย the southern most tip of Mainland Asia ๐too with the borders of shorelines of Malaysia ๐ฒ๐พ , Indonesia ๐ฎ๐ฉ & Singapore ๐ธ๐ฌ
Lots of tourists ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ travelling to here, just to capture a photo ๐ธ with this globeย ๐ shaped monument & plaque which marked the southernmost point๐
Guess whatโโ๏ธ
Tanjung Piai ๐ฟ as a coastal mangrove also being granted in Jan 2003 with the status๐of an internationally important Ramsar Convention site๐๐ป
It has high socio-economic value for fisheries ๐๐ especially mudskippers aka ikan belacak in Malaysia’s ๐ฒ๐พnational language๐
The national park officers ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ผ๐จ๐ปโ๐ผshared about the breeding story of mudskippers๐. Apparently the male ๐น๐ mudskippers need to build a mud house ๐ (refer photo ๐ธ below) to attract the female ๐บ๐mudskippers. Ha…Ha…Interesting facts learnt๐ ๐๐คฃ
